How many of you were watching the Daytona 500 when the NASCAR family lost THE MAN?

I was watching. Last 1/2 lap. Terrible wreck. Looked like it was okay. Michael Waltrip won. I went to my computer and checked the stats, golf scores, etc...

10 minutes after the wreck/end of race, the t.v. (still turned up from the race) said Earnhardt was seriously injured.
I went to a reliable news website to check details. Then the Headline.

Those of you in the South and East are more exposed to NASCAR than those of us in the West. There are exceptions.
Did it hit home for you?


I got to open an early X-Mas present tonite. I didn't know what to say after I opened it. In the time I have spent shopping this year, have yet to see anything like this. You may prove me wrong, but in the Pacific Northwest, it is a rarity.
The present is a shirt. Dale Earnhardt "The Man". All his glory on the back, Gargoyles and all. The front sports the #3 car and signature.

Definitely makes up for the lack of my Hayabusa.org shirt due to Wife wear, or my sloppy eating.


Any others out there that are Dale fans? I must admit, to me he was the Intimidator and nothing else for a long time. Once gone, I realized what/who he really was.
Enough rambling.

I'm not much of a nascar fan anymore.. I was in the early/mid 90's then the sport started changing to a "status" sport for the yuppies/preppies to get together and celebrate being important at.

My parents have always been big fans though.. I happened to be watching when he crashed and really had a hard time making the reality of Dale being dead sink in. I wasn't really grieving really, but depression due to the loss.

I have been to Daytona 500 9 years Loudon every year for both races and Bristol Tenn once all of those races where great . I saw #3 win the Daytona 500 finally after so many close calls . My parents are into NASCAR and I went with them to most of the races . I have a stock car and they where my pit crew for 5 years . We loved to go together and I hope we still go to many races together . It is a tradegdy when anyone gets hurt in an accident like that especially one with so many fans .

I snuck into the track one year before the Daytona 500 and hung out with Ray Evernham and the crew they all signed my Chevy racing hat it was cool The olnly sig I didnt get was Jeffs he was surrounded by kids getting autographs I didnt want to step on any of them Oh well I can still get it someday

OK I dont know how true this girl was being . But I was at a club in Daytona beach and the girl I was dancing with told me she was Mark Martins step daughter . Does anyone know if he even has a step daughter . She was cool we had a good time danced and drank it was fun anyway . But I wasnt sure if she was telling the truth or pulling my leg

I watch NASCAR on and off, but when I was on, I was a Dale Earnhardt fan. When Jeff Gordon came along, I started to like his style also. Just like Ruffles Potato Chips..."can't eat just one..."

Dale will be missed, I was a huge fan. Could not believe it when I heard it sucked trully!!!!! I have been watching Nascar ever since I could remember with my Dad. I like Micheal Waltrip, now that he is with a good team maybe he will be able to win some races. Little E looks good too.

Big E wasn't my favorite..but he made it all worth watching..
Made it so you never knew what would happen to the end...
He was the Intimidator,,my hero is ..doh...drunk now...
Is Kenny Shrader...Oh so close at times.....

Agreed about the decline of NASCAR. They lost it when they went for the almighty dollar. I never was a fan of Dale, ever. Respected him though. He died doing what he always did, and knew the risk. I really felt no pain, or loss.

Always been a Petty fan, King Richard, and all of them. Sad that Kyle also lost his son too.

Don't care for Winston Cup anymore. I will watch the trucks though, as they still race.

HUGE Dale fan. Got to meet him and Jr. at the Coca Cola 600 a few years ago. Awesome driver and a great great man. I spent about 4 hours with him and Jr just shooting the crap. To say the least I was devastated when he died. The girlfriend got me 2 plaques for Xmas this year. both have pieces of rubber from Dales and Jr.s race tires. They will look nice next to the plaques that have pieces of their race cars

As far as # 24 goes.....what a kitty cat! Used to be a fan of his till I found out from insiders what he does to his crew, employees, and fans. When one of ya get Jeffy's autograph. let me know how much he charged you for it!
