Went to a place called JJ's Cycles in Springfield this morning to set up an appointment to have my recall work done on the clutch basket. They tell me that I have to leave the bike with them before they will order the gasket and that this is Suzuki's policy. I call BS! Why would I want to leave my bike at a shop for atleast a week for a 2 hour fix? Furthermore they didn't know about the recall and needed my VIN number before they would even look into it. I ended up just walking out. It is pretty sad when the customer is more educated than the people selling the product.... I won't be going back.

Yeah, I call BS on that whole need the bike thing because Suzuki says we do. If Suzuki really does say that a good dealer would just say "hey, we have a customer's bike here and we need this gasket". Suzuki is never going to know if that bike is in the shop or not.

The VIN number part makes sense though. That's how they keep track of what bikes been fixed and what bike hasn't been fixed. It doesn't surprise me a dealership doesn't know about every TSB either.

On another note it's very easy to fix yourself. I did the fix on the side stand in the garage when I did the 600 mile service. I didn't put a new gasket on either I just used the old one because it wasn't really that "old" yet. I now have over 2400 miles on my bike and no problems. Good luck brother. :beerchug:

smart move! you should look around for another or consider doing it yourself if you want it done right.

I've heard that before with dealerships making you leave the bike while ordering parts for a recall...don't know the specifics on why they do that, but guess it's because they don't have you pay any money down on the part and want to make sure they do not have to pocket the expense if you don't come back...just guessing

The locals know me pretty well and ordered recall parts for me without leaving the bike, but they did say their policy usually requires the bike be left at the shop~!~

BTW...what year has a recall on the clutch basket~?~

Seems to me they could collect the VIN, order the gasket and then call you back in...

I get really tired of shops that play the "stupid" card and do nothing to help keep a guy on the street.... you could never get away with this in the car industry (well for very long)...

if you can handle a little trip, i bet the guys at Donnell's Suzuki in Independence, MO could get it done for ya on a Sat.

I called Destination Powersports and they are taking care of me the way the other dealer should have.

Welcome to JJ's.
What keeps them in business no one really knows.
Don't turn your back on Destination either.

There's only one place around here that I'll let touch my bike, and it damn sure ain't either one of those.
I'll give you the scoop when I talk to you tomorrow.

I did this service on my B-King literally took me 45 minutes to complete including changing out a dinged up alternator cover.

I'm not ready to risk screwing up my plastics yet plus I might get a free oil change out of it.

I had the same problem in Chesterfield. They don't know how to schedule anything. They expect you to leave your oil change in line behind an engine rebuild, tranny replacement, crash repair, etc. Then call to tell you the oil filter is on back order and it will take another coupe of weeks. When will they earn that service is what's going to keep them in business?
