After months of reading about the headlight being to low from the factory and people dealing with it. I called the local dealership and asked about this safety issue. Bring it in and we'll fix it was their reply. This is a problem from the factory, make them fix it.

But then again, you could simply read your owners manual, then adjust them to suit You, your weight, your preferences exactly... It's pretty simple... and it starts you out getting to know your Busa... If your into that...

True...I do my own maint and mods and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment, but when I almost pay ten grand for a motorcycle...I'm not going to fix/adjust factory problems.

Well if it makes you feel any better, make a comparison check.

You paid almost $10,000 and your biggest gripe is the headlight.

Harley people pay $30,000 for something that leaks oil on the show room floor, vibrates your teeth out of your head, cant even catch the exhaust of a Busa. And I have seen so many with headlight problems due to wires vribrating lose, bolts vibrating out..

So while a headlight adjustment issue sucks, if you put it into perspective it aint all that bad

Umm, OK... But what your calling a defect I'd call a safe bet. I mean if Suzuki aimed them higher, then you'd have folks crying that they are always blinding folks and bring them in to have them lowered.

What I am getting at is too low of Headlight is hardley a dealer service issue and is something you could take care of yourself without worrying about some 18 year old taking a screwdriver to your ride, then the inevitable "Raod Test"... Pop off some plastics and have at it, this way at least you'll be able to Aim them exactly where YOU want them aimed and there won't be any further return trips...

Maybe ya'll missed the Memo but Bikers are supposed to be a pretty self reliant, tech Savvy bunch...

Bah, I'm just busting balls... No worries...

I have a guy here at work whose wife said "I Like the Passenger seat on the Harley better." So he Bought a WideGlide. Which has just about NO passanger seat... Mind you she had never sat on the Passanger seat of a Busa... But Nope... No Busa for him.

Tell ya, first time in my life I have ever heard of a grown man buying a Harley Because his wife "approved"...

Although he did get a pretty good deal on the Wide Glide...

HDs are great for image-conscious cruising and posing. You need full costume and loud backfiring straight pipes for the full effect

Mine were pointed almost directely at the ground...since the Busa is made in Japan, maybe they figure we're all "fat lazy Americans" and adjust them for more rotund individuals

I guess I could have rode it 25 miles back to the dealer the next day and then sat around and waited while one of the techs adjusted it (and scratched something), then there's the 25 mile ride back home.
Instead I spent 5 minutes per beam in the garage and set it where I wanted it. The time and 50 miles saved were spent on quality scenic riding vs. the congested concrete jungle were the dealer is located.

I don't believe there is such a thing as a "good deal" on a Harley product.

It's like that old joke about 1st prize being a new Harley.

....2nd prize is TWO Harleys
laugh.gif

OK OK this isn't a harley bashing thread... Although a "Good" deal was $12.5K for a 2002 Wide Glide with about 4K miles on the clock. I know it's pretty damn high for a "Poser Harley" so maybe the Original Owner did more than pose with it...

Now About the Dangerous HEADLIGHT ISSUE....

Dude,
Get out the 10mm socket and adjust the damn headlight to where you want it, yes, it comes set low, but it's not a big deal to put it where you need it
cool.gif

I've had Three New Hayabusa's in the past year or so and all three came with the low beam set too low. I took a 10mm socket and a 6 inch extention went out after dark, turned the headlight on and adjusted it to suit myself in about five minutes. No plastic to remove, not bolts to take out, nothing. It's a little tight to get into without taking off the bottom cover to the nose cowling but quite easy to do. I'm surprised anyone would take their bike back to the dealer for a headlight adjustment? If you are not mechanical enough to adjust your headlight, I'm not sure a busa is for you? Your dealer is probably not going to adjust it to suit YOU anyway! Just read your manual, it tells you exactly how to do it!

And you guys bashing Harley's aparently have never had much experience with them. I have owned a harley of some sort since I was 16 and still have one in my garage. I ride my GSXR 1K most of the time, the busa comes second and I will admit, the ultra glide collects dust most of the time but if I am going on a trip with a passenger, there is no competition from ANY sportbike. The old Ultra Glide can haul me, a fat chick and most every thing SHE owns accross the country and you never know she is back there unless you feel for her? She cruises up around 75-80 all day long with a soft comfy seat, cruise control, back rest for both me and passenger, tunes for entertainment, CB radio to harass the truckers, handy water bottle for a drink now and then, gets 45 miles to the gallon even with a fat chick in the rumble seat and,,,,,,,,, I can do wheelies on the bitch! Not tall wheelies mind you but I can get her waist high! The passenger seat is so comfy with it's wrap around arm rests, I have actually had women fall asleep while in route. Now, how many of you guys have a busa that will match that resume? The old faithful harley has it's place although it doesn't compete with the busa for speed or agility. It really is an american Icon, loved by many who can afford them.

As far as experience goes, no I have never owned one.

However over the years I have had many friends that own them.

Their bikes always seem to be leaking, or in the shop, or breaking down in someway.

Before I purchased my Busa I was tossing around and checking out the V-Rod, Katana's, GSXR's and finally the Busa.

My friend who owns a Harley really tried talking me into buying a Harley. So I was taking a seriously hard look at the V-rod.

However in my research of purchasing a new bike, allot of the Harley mechanics out there were telling me the V-rod was plagued with engine problems.

And stock the thing was going for $18,000.00

I was also told that sales sucked on the V-rods and HD had dropped the prices. And from what a mechanc told me that was concured with by other "people in the know" sales sucked because of the problems the V-rod was having.

And the V-rod was the ONLY HD that appealed to me.

I have seen a lot more cruisers broken down on the side of the road than I have sport bikes and to reiterate, I have personally known quite a few people that have owned and still own cruisers (Harley's, customs) and they seem to often have their bike in the shop to have something repaired.

Anyway, that is what I based my comment on. Not any "personal experience" from owning my own, but I don’t own my own because of personal experience's from people I know personally

Hey bro relax a bit. You don't like someone's suggestion about getting something fixed by a dealer that you can do in "about 5 minutes" cool by why question the ability to own a busa. How does being mechanical equate to driving/riding ability. I know several people that are mechanically challenged and drive/ride and have been for many years without any problems. (drive/ride = cage/moto) IMHO, it's pretty idiotic to think that if some one can not turn a wrench then they shouldn't own a busa.

Now as far a HARDLEY ABLESON bashing goes. My experience is dated back 6 1/2 years when I met my wife. Her ENTIRE family, ok maybe not entire family but mom, dad, brother, cousin, aunt, and uncle all own HARDLEYs. Not to mention their friends. Though they all love there ride most will admit they have had them to the shop a few times. Oh, you know, maybe they shouldn't own them since they couldn't fix them their self. As far as riding them, I've ridden a FLSTF, FXDWGI, and a XL1200C and well it is a different ride then my previous experience on sport bikes. At least I know why most Hardley riders wont wave. It's because they don't wont to wobble themselves into a high side or something, specially at highway speeds. I will agree with you about your carrying a passenger comment, but bro your comparing apples and oranges. If I were going to cruise cross country 2 up I'd much rather be on a cruiser than a sportbike, specially if she is a fat chick.
Anywho, I'm glad you own a lifestyle like your "American Icon" HARDLEY ABBLESON.(glad it is collecting dust tho) ONe ? for ya though, If the Harley Davidson Corp. is such an American Icon why doesn't it use American manufacturors more than overseas manufacturors. Wait one..don't answer that I'm sure it has something to do with there business process, costs, and profits. Anyway, happy riding.

Hey...........I take offense to that......................................................................................

..I look pretty damn good ridin' my Bus and I takes a great picture standing next to it "posing".

I also like to be in full costume(all geared up) when I ride!!!!
wink.gif

You win on the straight pipes though........I don't own "The Stungun" so you need to talk to Stunnah about those purdy straight stubby pipes of his!!!!!!

Honestly, it doesn't take much to adjust your headlights..........I've got mine set a little bit high right now, but I think I like it that way.................I see great, and people see me great!!!!!

I called the dealer and got some information on a common complaint to pass to the board. Received an answer from the dealer which may help some people, and gained some insight on individuals within the content of their replies. Interesting...Not once did I state my light needed adjustment. I stated if a problem occurred with my bike under warranty I would have Suzuki fix it. Ride safely and enjoy your preferred make of a motorcycle.
