Declutching not smooth

When I slow down and clutch in and once again declutch to get moving (without really coming to a full stop) the drive train bites into the gear rather than the power slowly transitioning off the clutch. I need to intentionally be extremely delicate to make sure the power is back to my rear wheel without the harsh bite of the clutch rolling off. Is this normal? How can I improve this?

First thing to do would be to bleed the clutch, to make sure there is no air in the system, which would make engagement harsh.
Eliminate that as an issue first, as it is easy and free(other than a small amount of brake fluid, and look at the mc cap and check if it's DOT3 or DOT4, do not mix them).
If it persists, we can go from there.
Given Suzuki's lack of quality in manufacturing the Gen3, I would not be suprised if there was some air in the system.

Thanks will check if that fixes it. Starting to wonder could it be related to the throttle response being sharp and not really an issue with the clutch? Im going to try that on road and report back in a bit.....keep the clutch disengaged all the time, get off the throttle and throttle back up - and see if its harsh. Wondering if this might be the issue.....

So what you describe to me sounds like the throttle is "snatchy" and if the revs are too low when you release the clutch quickly it will do that or if you are off the clutch but moving slowly it will lurch slightly....

If that's the case, it's normal....a tune that smooths out low speed throttle response will help this...

Ended up bleeding the clutch, draining all of it and refilling new lubricant. And it's now purrfect! Thanks sixpack!
Crazy to think that a Gen 3 bike already needs the clutch fluid changed and bled to work properly....

I've owned several new and old bikes with hydraulic clutches that never acted like this even when I was neglectful of clutch fluid changes and went far too long in between changes (years).

Unusual, yes...but I don't think any issues are suprising with the Gen3 anymore, it's sad.

.....unfortunately so......

I knew a guy with a GS1150EF who had it for 20 years and never changed the clutch fluid.....and it shifted perfectly....

The only reason he realized he should have changed it is when he was at my house and I was changing it on one of my bikes.....then he told me the story of how he has never changed his....so we did and it was the color of maple syrup.....yikes!

Must be a Canadian thing

I had never done it on my RR and not a single problem. The Harley seems to need it yearly. Any moisture in the system and the clutch gets funky.
