After moving from the tropics to a colder climate my bike just didn’t start the same.
In Darwin the temp rarely got below 70F. Always started first crank and idled well.
Moving south to Canberra the mornings were suddenly down around 45F and falling as winter now approaches and will soon be below freezing.
It would now take 3 attempts to get going and climb itself up to fast idle.
After a ride in the hills the other day and the fuel light coming on I thought I would fill it up with regular.
Next morning, and every morning since, the old girl fires up first time again.
I have been using BP Ultimate, which is 98 octane at the pump.
Premium is 95 and regular is 92.
I would not have believed the difference had I not experienced it myself.
Unless I upped the compression, fitted nitrous or a turbo I think I’ll keep saving 20c a litre at the pump.
Who knows, maybe some others in the colder areas might benefit from this.
Cheers
Ross
