I'm designing a new shift light for my 08 and will share my results... I have my reasons but before I share my thoughts, I want your opinion of the factory shift light... What do you like and dislike about it.
I Love it.. My only complaint is that I wish it was centered on my dash so it is easier to see during the day, and I don't have to take my eyes off the road/strip to see it.. At night it is perfect because the light is bright and easy to see blinking...
Read your manual, it tells you how to set it. There confusing directions but workable. I like mine though i wish it was more to the center on the gage cluster.
I have found it to be a bit superfluous for street use.... between the sounds and vibes from the engine bay, I know when it's time for the next gear.... whether it's upshift or downshift...
That having been said, I can certainly see its use on track days, for those who take their K8 to the track.

That is pretty much where I use mine the most, on the drag strip... Sometimes when out on a long ride in the middle of nowhere I get a little jiggy and like to click through the gears using it !!!
I like it a lot. I set it at 6k during break in and now have it set at 10k. The bike runs too smooth and quite to go off of feeling alone, so having the shift like is nice.
