dreaded extra bolt

I recently installed a new stator cover, and also did an oil change, took off and cleaned my fairings, and put in a new battery. Everything is back in and tight but I couldn't find a place for this bolt. As you can see its pretty short and the thread portion is unusually thick. Standard allen head same as the fairing bolts. 2000 model.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely not the drain plug. The 3.7 quarts I put in would have been all over my floor. I'm pretty sure it was part of the body kit. I had it mixed in with the fairing fasteners. The drain plug was like an 18mm socket, not allen. The head is about nickle sized.

That's not a regular fairing bolt. Drain plug is a 17mm hex head.
Does the bike have any extra stuff that's not factory?

Yeah i bought it used and the old owner got kind of creative with his fasteners. There are some mods and a lot of things that look a little jury rigged. Could be a non-standard piece but im sure it wasn't from a drain or fill port. Im pretty careful with that stuff. He must have been using it as a fastener somewhere. Maybe on the belly.

It looks like a plug that would go in an oil galley or the plugs for looking at TDC etc. but that stuff is on the other side.
Got me by the shorties.

Gen 1. 2000 model. Everything seems to be working. I've put about a hundred miles on it. No leaks or squeeks. Nothing fell off yet.
