Drilling Fuel Tank Lid Holes?

I bought an aftermarket fuel tank lid and as per my luck the holes don't line up when I went to bolt it in. The old cap is useless. I have a ride I need to go on tomorrow so I was thinking about drilling new holes around the neck since it doesnt appear to go into the actual tank. Does anyone know if this will work? I know its a short term fix until I can get the correct lid in.

I would buy a cap that fits.
Will be much less headache in the long run.
Any metal shavings that fall in the tank will likely be caught by the filter. However, I wouldn't want to risk one finding it's way into an injector, and clogging it.
It's also always been my experience that rushing to fix something, to be able to ride, never ends well, for one reason or another.
Just my 2cents.
Good luck with it.
