get yer Dremel(or similar) out.
grind thru the little welds.
unscrew the allens.
drill some holes.
re-install end caps(use some locktite on those bolt threads)

just take the cans off it will sound better and save weight. drilling stock cans is plain STUPID. but then again I don't have to be seen on a bike with drilled cans

Gee Thanks Cheese, I opted to buy my bike in cash and wait on the mods instead of financing the bike and buying the extras...  I own every piece of all my toys, Bike, Boat and my Truck, No Credit Cards needed.  Sometimes things just take a little longer...

Here is how I did mine...

Not everyone has a big mod budget.  The drilled cans sound alot better than stock and the only cost is a couple hours if you work slow.  Can't tell they've been drilled by looking if it's done right.

Sorry that you don't approve of the things that those of us who can't afford turbos and full exhaust mods, but that's no reason to put us down for trying to make our Busas uniquely ours.  And not that I care what an overpriced wrench thinks of my work, here's a pic.  Ridicule all you like JC, I'm not ashamed or embarrased by my work.

I don't have very good recording equipment.  This was taken with the microphone on my headset.  The quality of the sound file is poor, but I think you can get the idea of how drilling the cans adds bass to the exhaust note.

Good God Dennis! LOL!!!

Just listened to your soundfile...through my Logitech THX 5 speaker with boom box 250watt PC sound system and...

you'll be enthused to know you just vibrated the stack of this weeks mail off the end of my freaking PC desk. LOL!!!

and yes...it does add a bit of BASS to the exhaust note. LOL!!!...I'm not gonna do it simply because I prefer my busa to be quiet for personal reasons but...this is cool shid indeed for the modder on a budget.

That is a lot different than stock! That is the shiznit for stock cans. I think I may have to try that.

This was from my original post...

I have not decided what to by for exhaust yet, but definately decided the stock cans were not loud enough. Churchkey gave me the idea. I used a dremel to cut the welds that hold the three allen screws in place on the endcaps. I removed the caps and drilled one half inch hole between the threadded rods for the cap mount, It wasn't loud enough so I added three more to each, I still have room for 3 more for a total of nine. With the first three there was some resonation with the cap back on so I cut 1.5 inches off of the center pipe. After cutting off that the resonation went away but it still wasn't very loud, so I drilled the second set of three holes.

They have a sweet rumble to them now, I don't think I'll need the last three holes. I can here the bike now while riding it. I used a standard db meter at 25 feet straight bike from the bike, stock at 4500 RPM was 81 db, With the modded cans I now get 109 db, quite a difference. They are not obnoxious though.

+1.  They are a little louder, but not too much.  I don't think they are as loud as some of the bolt-ons out there.  I just wanted to lower the pitch of the exhuast note a bit.

Is there any way to completely remove that inner smaller pipe (baffle) ? The stock cans have quite a large opening in there if it werent for that thing corking them up.NJ.

Hey JohnnyCheese, are you talking removing the midpipes as well or just the cans? Also, will this cause a problem with the fuel mixture?

Funny chit RSD. Cans sound great Dennis.

JC- I took my cans and midpipes off, but the Busa won't run, do I need a PC and do you have the map?
