I would like to share an experience with you, about drinking and driving.

As you well know, some of us have been known to have had brushes with the authorities on our way home from the odd social session over the years.

A couple of nights ago, I was out for a few drinks with some friends at the Marriott Hotel and had a few too many beers and some rather nice red wine.

Knowing full well I may have been slightly over the limit, I did something I've never done before: I took a bus home.

Sure enough I passed a police road block but as it was a bus, they waved it past.

I arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise; as I have never driven a bus before and am not sure where I got it.

So what your saying is when we get drunk we should all steal a bus to get home safely. I will keep that in mind next time I have always wanted to drive one anyway lol.

You should not drink and drive, and cops should not have roadblocks, this aint Nazi Germany or Frikken Commie Russia, I hat my liberties being infringed.

I have a deal with the Wife, if I go out after work and have more than 2 beers she comes to get me no questions (biching) asked, or I take a taxi for $100.

My wife and I are very strict on the subject. Either she drinks or I drink but never both of us while we are out of the house.

Good think we normally have everyone over to our house and most of our guests are close enough to walk home or sleep over.

first of all how are ur liberties being infringed by a sobriety check point on a rare occassion that takes maybe 3 minutes to complete? explain that. if ur not drunk then what do u to worry about? ull spend more time in construction traffic then you will at any sobriety check point.

should we do away with highway maintence as well so the roads can be safer so ur liberties arent infringed upon????

ill bet if ur wife was killed by a drunk driver that nite ud wish there was a sobriety check point that nite. and btw, its not a road block like Nazi Germany or Commie Russia:whistle:, its a check point to see if ur safe to operate ur car so u dont kill innocent people who are NOT drunk.

I guess cops should not conduct speed enforcement on the highway either cause we all know no one speeds when they get in their car....

and btw, a drunk driver who gets arrested for DUI has committed that crime on average 82 times before he/she is caught and if u get hit by a drunk in ur car u have a chance to survive cause there is a cage around it but if u get hit by a drunk while ur on ur MC then chances are your DEAD! so stop whining about a 3 minute inconvenience to ur life to save ur life....

I'd vote for an autobahn type road going through my neck of the woods.

Hell, I'd cheat and vote twice

Drinking and Riding :beerchug:...Really! It's dangerous enough just riding on the roads without adding beverages to the mix, especially when the smallest car driving along is bigger than the largest bike riding along. Like "GNBRETT" mentioned there's a steel cage surrounding you in a vehicle that acts as a safety barrier in the unfortunatle case of a crash, but on a bike there's only your safety gear and depending on how you roll, that may just be a helmet; which means your body is the barrier:please: I'm all for sober check points and any/all check points that's aimed at keeping the motoring public safe while its traveling on the streets, roads, and highways.

I have had close, very close friends die in DUI incidents so I understand the severity, I am just not ready to sucumb to a police state to protect me, I will take my chances.

Remember the old quote from Frankilin,
"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both"

I lost someone close on an mc to a 4th time drunk driver. And I also don't believe in checkpoints. If you think all they are checking is your ability to operate a vehicle, thats just not true. You don't have to ask me for my ID, reg, and ins to see i am not drunk.

And btw, good job on that decision. Not enough choose that path.

^^ Retarded Post Is Retarded.

Roadblocks are there precisely to stop jackasses from drinking and driving. My father got busted last year and lost his license for 6 months (minimum mandated penalty). It was the best thing to ever happen to him, as it made him face up to his alcoholism. His life has completely turned around now; he quit drinking, has a much better job and is a lot healthier than he has been for decades.

Unlike Aus we have a Constitution that gaurantees individual freedom from socialist government or heavy handed inteference in our lives by the "Authorities". You may think its retarded but relying on the government to protect you from lifes hazards by giving up your liberty is even more retarded. Enforcement by pulling over suspect drivers (swerving etc) is strongly supported ,however, general throw out the net to see what they come up with is a police state retard.

^ Shows how much you know about the legislative/constitutional rights afforded to Australian citizens.

Do you think the USA is the sole country that guarantees freedoms to its citizens?

Having roadblocks to prevent people from driving drunk is NOT "heavy handed interference", nor does it take away an alleged "rights" that you might think you have. - You do not have a "right" to drive drunk. People like you are the same ones who moan about "goverment interference" over issues like mandatory wearing of seatbelts, i.e. morons.

As for your objection to being asked to produce license/registration/insurance details at what is ostensibly an RBT point, well, don't you think it's good to know that other road users are licensed and insured?!

ProTip: If you wish to engage in conversation without coming across as an imbecile, improve your grammar and spelling. Also try getting quotes accurate, unlike, for example, your misquotation of Benjamin Franklin (which you clearly don't understand the meaning of).
