Drive line back lash

I originally posted this in the technical forum with only a few replies so I'm going to try it here.

How much back lash is to much for the busa when it is in gear.

When I park my bike I back it into my driveway and leave it in gear after I turn it off.

When I get off I make sure I roll it as far forward as it can go and then set it back down on the side stand to make sure it won't roll while setting it down.

I noticed that the bike will roll a good 3 inches from as far back as it can go to as far forward as it can go.

This seems a bit excess to me.

I just cleaned and lubed the chain. It is right in the middle of the tolerance.

Would a worn clutch basket cause this or am I looking at a tranny problem or is this normal for the Busa?

The bike will occasionally start to jerk with the throttle backed all the way off and applying minimal amount of throttle in any gear. If I crack the throttle or just accelerate hard it is fine. This is leading me to believe that there is excessive back lash in the tranny.

I replaced the cush drive cushions this past week end. That eliminated the clunking sound that I was hearing. The sprocket hub came out without any effort. The old cushions were shrunken and dried up.

The clutch grabs at the half way point and doesn't slip in any gear at any speed no matter how hard I accelerate.

There is no vibration at any speed just at the normal 4500 to 4900 buz zone. No wheelies or burn outs since I've owned it. The last owner says he never wheelied or smoked the tires so he says.

The bike is a 2000 with 15,540 with miles on it. I bought it used last June with 10,480 miles on it.

I agree that the backlash roll out is normal. Mine was the same from day one mile one.

As far as the jerk at light throttle goes mine got a lot happier after a TRE install.

That is normal.

There is play in the cush drive, some slack in the chain, numerous gears that might move a little, and the tire is a good distance from the axle exagerating the play you feel. All that stuff adds up, and its completely normal.
