Dunlop Q2 question

I'm replacing my Powers 2CTs with the Q2s. The guy at the shop asked if I wanted to go with the 190-50's or the 190- 55s? I said the 50 being that its the stock size But now I'm wondering"whats the difference between the 2???" So all you tire geniuses out there, educate me

The 55 profile is taller so you should experience a faster "tip in". From looking at the Dunlop site it looks like the circumference of the 55 is very close to 3 percent greater. This would be like changing to a different rear sprocket ( 2 less teeth). Your acceleration will be slower. Top speed greater..theoretically of course. Many board members choose the 55 profile for the improved handling. As always your mileage may differ............

Thanks, I guess its like everything else, lose the bottom to gain up top or gain down low but lose up top

I like the 55 better because its a little taller, And better tip in they say, but i really cant tell a hole lot of difference, i just went with it because it being taller for a little more ground clearance.

I have a set of both and am going to put the 55 on when I change out this time and see if I like the difference...

I personally, am sold on the 55 for reasons as stated above. I had to go back to a 50 on a return trip, out of necessity(to get home:laugh:) and noticed a big diff. in all aspects.

Best way is to try for yourself and decide.Opinions are always a crap-shoot:whistle:.:beerchug:

Macon needs an 80 up front and a 65 out back and will still be dragging hard parts!:poke::rofl:

You'll be just fine with the 50 series. I can't tell the difference on the streets. The only difference is the 55 raises the rear slightly and it changes the gear ratio slightly. I can tell a slight difference at the track when I'm throwing it into a corner. But it is a "Slight" difference. I"m not particular on street tires and race tires never come in 50 series!

Your biggest improvement is getting off the PP's and onto Q2's!

I stayed with the 50. They had mounted them first thing in the morning.$269 for the set at cycle gear, 2 weeks ago they were $229 but I'm rollin good now. Thanks everyone

In you opinion, do you feel the Q2's would be an all around tire seeing I dont go to the track. I live in florida and bring it to the mountains twice a year for the twisties. Looking for both traction and mileage as most. I saw the tire comparison and the Q2's came out on top but they where doing the test on the track which confused me on what type of tire it is

Rick, If I were riding for Grip (track), the Q2's are an awesome tire and you can find some GREAT deals ($200/set) at times. However, if riding street as you predominatly are, I'd recommend Avon Storm 2's. Good enough street grip for Pashnit, but a lot better mileage....

I agree with skydivr on this also, The Q2 is not going to last near as long as the Avon will if you arew riding alot on miles and not very many corners, And like he said Pashnit uses the Avons and he can rail a corner also.

Thanks guys, Your opinions are much appreciated. Dont feel like buying the tire twice to get the right one for my riding style.

thanks again, Rick
