I've always like the look of Earls Lines...Stainless with the red and blue connectors. I want to replace all my lines or hoses with them, but have never worked with the Earls stuff before. It looks like you have to buy the hoses then correct connectors and put them together.

Anyone have any experience or have already done this? On a 1 to 10 scale I consider myself a 6.5 of beging mechanically inclined..so I'm pretty sure I can figure it out, just wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks or had issues with Earls stuff?

What hoses do you plan on changing out? I have installed AN fittings and I know you need the special wrenches so you don't mar the fittings and you have to make sure you buy the correct fittings that go with each other. Make sure you get teflon paste for the threads or there is a special AN fitting lube also. It helps to wrap the ss hose with electrical tape before you cut it to prevent fraying and I use a grinder with a cut off wheel to make the cleanest cuts.
 
Good stuff...

Brakes, Clutch, fuel, vacuum, and Oil cooler if possible.
 
never use tape on an fittings!!!!

I've used AN lines and fittings for years... I've even re-done friends fuel systems. Hands down Earls has the better selection of fittings and lines. Never get Russel products. Aeroquip is great for hoses but it's a hassle finding all the right pieces.

If you're careful you don't need special wrenches (all though I have two complete sets). you do want to lube the fittings when mounting them to the hoses and also connecting the fittings. Always lube the threads. Also you should always pressure test all of the lines you make to ensure they're sealed right.

It's all a big hassle to say the least. As for brake lines those are easy enough and plenty of companies have ready made lines w/ metric fittings.
 
The hardest part of the whole job is cutting the stainless hose without f/n it up.
The you have to get it to go into the fitting (sometimes a biotch)
 
Thought this was a joke when I first saw the topic! I would probably have a hard time buying any plumbing from a guy named Earl!

Whats the benefit over stock? I get that rubber (not RSD

) expands under pressure for the brake and clutch.

Are the others the same method?

What he ^ said, it helps if you use about three people to do this,have 2 people try to stretch (pull) the line,THEN wrap the area where it will be cut,cut in the middle of the tape,it takes practice and a bit of finess to do this crap,in the end you have a much better supply and volume not to mention the great looks that come with braided lines.
