eBay gear indicator anyone?

Has anyobody tried a cheapo gear indicator from ebay? For the price, I'm tempted to give it a shot....

It has six gears. Yes, our speedos and tach use an electronic signal. The only thing that makes me wonder is the fact that you have to program acumen and GIpro's in order for them to work correctly (or so it seems from a little research) but, this one seems to just plug in without programing. A little strange. Also, the whole wire splicing thing for a $6 item doesn't strike me as a great idea. I dunno, $6 is hard to pass up.

Pass on it. I got a cheapo gear indicator one time and it fried my regulator rectifier on my 1995 CBR 900RR. I miss that bike

Wow....after some googling... it seems as though these are actually a scam. Go figure. I found two posts in other forums saying that they are just a counter display for other electronics and have no way to calculate what gear your'e in.
