Ebay purchase woes

Greetings fellow board members. I recently moved into Busa ownership and wanted to try teh bike with stock cans. (my used bike had none of original items with it).
So I purchased a complete exhaust system from Ebay, downpipes, midpipes and mufflers with only 500 miles and claimed to have no dings or scratches.

Well after an excess of 3 weeks, the system arrived. It had been poorly packed with all items in one large box and nothing to seperate them other than some shredded paper. Suffice to say the weighty headers had collided with the mufflers and gouged and scratched the soft surfaces without effort.

I have contacted the seller, and he has suggested I contact DHL to seek compensation or claim. At this point, I'm just about tired of trying to get this deal concluded succesfully, an whislt the total value was minimal, I'm just hacked off at the whole deal.

So what would anyone recommend, seek DHL recourse... follow Ebay / Paypal claim process... write it off to experience and forget about it?

Other than that - loving the bike

dhl will not pay for his poor packing, file with paypal and ebay, just leaving negative feedback is not enough. he would just turn around and leave you a negative and walk away. he stated in the ad according to what you said, that there are no dings or scratches.then they arrived damagned, that is his fault on packing. do not write it off, that lets him do the same again.

Yep--file with Paypal. The seller told you the condition at the time of the sale, but delivered something different. I see a clear claim here.

You should be able to pull up the original listing as well. That will help with your claim.

Being a fulltime seller on ebay myself, it is on the seller to deliver the item as described in his auction. Paypal and ebay really lean towards the buyer in most instances. I would send another email to the seller stating a serious position on wanting the situation handling properly and to your liking. If he cares about his ebay rep, he will make it right. If that doesn't get results, file "an item other described" claim both with paypal and ebay and it will get handled.

Unfortunately for every honest seller on ebay, there are several idiots out there. Hopefully he is not the later. Best of luck.

DHL and others routinely accept owner packed items for transport. That's what insurance is for. What amount did you have them insured for? You may have missed ebay and paypal's time limits for filing a claim. Good luck!

Thank you for all the responses and useful ideas.

I was fortunate, that up till 22 days after winning auction (and paying immdediately) I had heard nothing, despite 3 emails, so a Paypal claim had already been filed - expecting to hear nothing more from the seller.

Then a simple one line reply to the Paypal dispute read "Sent today DHL tracking xxxx sorry for delay"
So I figured maybe out of town, vacation etc., I've had things drag me away with out notice so no big deal.

Anyway, items arrived as described at start of this thread. I've given the seller till tomorrow to either seek resolution with DHL or leave me with no option than to proceeed with changing the Paypal dispute to a claim.

Really don't want to just from hassle perspective and as I say, total was less than 100 bucks, but I believe Ebay sellers have a responsibility to honour their items right to the buyers door. My last Akro system I sold from my 1K had a custom packing crate built by yours truly. Only cost 20 bucks in sheet material and an hour or two of time to ensure the buyer received exactly what he had purchased exactly as when it left me.

Anyway, rant over - thanks again guys - will keep you posted on progress as tomorrow rolls by.
