EBC Clutch Springs

I just recieved a new set of plates and springs for the ol bus. I decided to go stock on the plates and use EBCs springs that are supposed to be 10% stronger.

The springs are a bit shorter than the stock ones, but they are considerably stronger. I can compress the stock springs with my fingers to some degree. I can't budge the EBC stuff.

Is this right?

Are you using a clutch slave support?

I am. I put one on long before I started messing with the clutch.

I know that I asked a newbie question, but in reality I'm not. I have been around drag bikes for a while now. I have run SEMDRA, ProStar, and several local classes. Most of it just for fun. I normally enjoy grudge racing.

Just lookin out for you!

ebc/barnett springs really don't require a support. They aren't heavy like the others and never had issue with cracking a cover with either...

well the ounce of prevention never hurts cuz that pound of cure usually costs $$$$

Here's another newb like question from a more seasoned member ... Whats the typical life of a stock clutch? Havent changed mine and have about 20k on the odo so just curious if I should be looking for a new one soon or not. Dont want any seasonal surprises when I can address them prior to the riding season

If the clutch is cared for they can go for quite a while. The clutch I just changed was on my street bike. I had 14,000 miles on that clutch. When I pulled the plates out the only thing wrong was a little discoloration on the steels. Everything else was perfect. I have launched this bike on the strip about 30 times or so too.

At 20,000 miles I would at the very least pull the plates and check the stack height and spring tension. If you're not able to do that you can get a complete clutch pack with springs for around $200 shipped depending upon what you get. It's worth the piece of mind.

They last a long time if you just street ride.I have several options on complete clutch kits when ya ready..

It's been said that they can last the life of an engine.
And only need to be replaced when the engine gets rebuilt.

When you consider that the plates don't actually ever touch, as they're covered by a film of oil, it makes some sense.

As long as the oil used remains clean and viscous through regular maintenance, and it's not abused, either by poor maintenance or operational abuse, It's quite possible.

Myself I'm on bike number 11, none of which I've ever replaced a clutch.

Just my POV.

All depends on your riding aggression in some cases. you will know when you need it. If I had a lot of miles on my bike, I would at least have the disc kit sitting on my shelf. This way if ya did need to install one, you aint got to wait to get it..
