Economy killing bike shows

Went to bike show in Hartford CT
last weekend, total waste of time ,it was so packed I was able to park 10 ft from entrance.
$5 for parking $30 for 2 to enter place was like a ghost town, about 3 local dealers 10 other booths set up with about everything but what you would wNt to see at a bike show.
Ok let's make the best of it a few beers should make us feel a little better :beerchug:2 beers cap and coke $24 hottt dammmmmmmmm time to go.:banghead:
Walked the entire show in about 10 min at very slow pace
about two years ago you could not get enough of bike shows and what they had to offer.
Hope it gets better soon:please:

I made the mistake of going to the Hartford show last year. Total waste of time and money. Next weekend is the New York International show. Thats the one we are all going to. Most of us are going Saturday.

Always had a good time at the j center
Boston shows are very good also hope they are still making it happen this year

Went to Biketoberfest in Daytona at the speedway.
(been going to Bikeweek and Biketoberfest every year for the last 4 or 5
years)

It was very weird...very few people....Ghost town.
The only big Mfgs were Yamaha and Kawi (and the Kawi display..well
wasn't. They were doing demo rides but no bikes set out for display).

No shows for mfgs included...
Suzuki, Honda, Harley (they had a little booth, no demo), Triumph, Victory,
boss hoss, and only about half the vendors.

I'm hoping Bikeweek will be better and bring some back.

You would think Honda would be there with a fleet of the new VFR and
the DN-01 and let people try 'em. Last few times though, Honda didn't do
demo rides at all.

On a possitive note, I did get to ride the new Vulcan series from kawi (all flavors)
nice bike. I was hoping since it was water cooled and new and about the same
cc as the M109, it might be close power wise...nahh. Not quite, still a nice
bike and finished very well.

One other note (guess I don't out much, don't drink anymore), I'm sitting there
at a table eating a $12 hamburger and they have a bar 20 ft from me. It's
a fairly high bar with people on stools and this hot looking blond Asian chick in
the middle tending bar. As I'm watching, she goes out on the ends of bar to
service customers and steps about 3 steps up...now her knees are round abouts
at bar level. What this does is...she has to bend over to hear, talk, and service
the customer...this give the guy on the other side a :moon: at about a foot and
half away. When she turns around to service the other guy (head shot), thanks
to her revealing wonderfully constructed top...well, you get the idea.
And I though...God lord, what evil genius devised this little layout.
Gotta be hard on the girls...all that bending over and such, no old barmaids
and I bet they make fantastic tips. Well, like I said...don't do the bar thing much
so it was new to me...did go back for a hamburger the second day too...

I usually take a few vacation days during bikeweek/biktoberfest...I happen to
be off the first friday so I will go see what's going on and if it's even worth
burning a few vacation days...I hope so, but...I kinda doubt it.

Irratating note on Yamaha...I signed up for a demo ride and they used to
let you sign up for two at a time...That's fine they don't do that, you have to
get back in line. So I did, there were 3 of us in line. So I sign up a second time.
Now I am the only one there in line...period. SOOooo...I ask, can do I do one more?
Nope...two is it. THERE IS NOBODY HERE...you would rather have bikes just sit there
and do nothing, then let people ride them...WTF.

You stand down there at Kawi (Kawi is by far the best) and if they have open bikes
they call "opens" and who's ever waitng can jump on 'em and go. I rode the poop
outa the Kawi(s).

They all have become a big waste of time and money. Me and my friends all have came to the same conclusion. You ride way out somewhere and pay a hefty entrance fee to a place with prices marked way up on food and what ever else is being sold there. And all for what? Just to stand around and look at each other then ride back home about with a big hole in your pocket!

We just ride out to different places like VA Beach every once and a while or out to the next town over and hang out with the other riders from the area mostly at sports bars and have way more of a better time than standing around at some park or whatever that you have to pay to get into and get hit heavy in the pocket while you are inside too!

I'll be going to the Bike Show in Bangkok next week. Wish we'd be able to park 10ft from the entrance
It's one of the worlds lagest bike shows and the space it's in is so large, I'll be lucky to cover it all in an entire day!
Thousands will be expected to attend.

Sorry to hear about your lousy experience. It has affected the State shows very badly.

Couple of general notes:
1-Bikes are rarely how you would actually perseive them to be from an article.
Nothing takes the place of sitting on it and hitting the throttle. Some surprise
some dissapoint.

2-Gain invaluable insite and a great base for future evaluations (however,
perception is tainted by the Beast...our definitions of fast and power are
not mere mortal's definitions).

3-Harley absolutely makes the worst friken V-twin on the MARKET PERIOD.

4-and where the heck is Ducati...they need demo rides [/QUOTE]

That is very cool abot the demo rides! :cheerleader:
Where do they let you take the bike out and for how long? Was there a long wait? Is there any kind of waiver you were required to sign? How about helmet & gear?

Each mfg has a waiver form to fill out.
The rides are about 15-20+ miles long.
Every mfg is different.

Harley has a course mapped out.
You get in, for example, the "softtail" line and tell 'em
you want to ride a fatboy...a few minutes later, one rolls in
you get on and off you go. Come back, get in any line you want
(usually they're not long...maybe a 15 minute wait). Rode their new
sportster XR1200...that was a BLAST.

The Jap mfgs all have escorted rides and times (sign up EARLY)
They all say no wheelies, stoppies, slingshots, or they will take your keys
and you can walk back but...
Kawi is bad arse...my Son and I got on a pair of ZX10s...the ride broke into
two groups (we were in the second) we cleared traffic and our guy kept slowing
down...way in the distance group one cleared the turn...I saw our "escort"
hunker down and HIT IT...HOLY Crap...we hit tripple digits and went into the
turn at (30mph signs) close to 90mph....we come out...he slows down again,
group one goes out of sight (I was ready for it this time)...he pops a wheelie
hunkers down and were off again. We got back, my Son says...
"NOW THATS A DEMO RIDE!" I'm wondering...what do I have to do to make them take my keys ???

That was fairly extreme for an escorted demo ride but they are still pretty decent.

Aprllia is the only one I had to pay for (it was longer)...here's a link to my
review (with pictures) used to do these everytime, just kinda stoped...

WHAT! Next time you ride out this way give me a yell. Where are you in NC?

It would just be nice to go to a show test a bike or two
and actualy find some part for your bike that you can purchase
to atleast justify going

Wow I live in the wrong state Around here you want to ride it you buy it those are the :rulez:

Well the stealership (Honda/Suzuki/Kawi) sux...they won't even START a bike
for you. Which is why the mfg sponsored demos are so nice...

The local Harley Dealership is actually pretty good. Everytime I go in they ask
if there is any bike I want to ride, I said yes once and took an unescorted
FatBob for a spin. They also have big weekend get togethers at the dealership
with live bands, food, etc...
