Sooo it's 2024 and I wanted to discuss electric waterpumps..
Soo my stock waterpump has a small leak so I'm looking at replacement options...
I can order the oem mechanical one, but I don't see alot of info in Google in regards to electric waterpumps.. except they allow a little more tq to hit the wheels..
Any recommendations or anyone have experiences with electric waterpumps? Or should I just buy an original?
Edit: I have a gen 1
For a race only bike, and trying to squeeze every bit of power out of the engine, an electric waterpump is fine, and one of many small things that add up.
For a street ridden bike, not so much.
You are much better off with the factory mechanical waterpump, as they are much more dependable, and will outlast an electric waterpump many times over.
You also will never notice any small power gain that an electric waterpump would provide, as it would be too small.
Factory waterpumps obviously fail too, but not very often, and they are a fairly simple rebuild.
Factory rebuild parts are also not expensive, and can be ordered from
Partzilla, in the oem section.
For reference, here is the factory waterpump from my 2003 Gsxr1000, it is baaically the same as the Busa's, if not the same part entirely, regardless, this is what it looks like inside.
Both bearings are likely ok, and the one still in the waterpump housing in the picture, would need to be pressed out and the new one pressed in if it failed, but that would be extremely unlikely.
You can see one rubber coated metal seal in the pictures too, and it will be destroyed as it's removed(but gets replaced anyway).
Partzilla will also have an exploded watwrpump parts diagram if you are unsure of the reassembly order.
I hope this helps, and am sorry that no one answered your question sooner.
