Sorry to hear, FC. I lost a friend a few months ago due to a bike accident. He was a very experienced and safe rider. Small patch of gravel, cliff (no guardrail)... gone.

My heart and prayers go to his family and his department.

I just had an unpleasent encounter with the boys in blue, still don't want anyone to go down like that. It's usually the good ones that go. FC, was this guy a friend to you?

Well FC, bad news either way you cut it. I'm sorry that it happened. Like I said before, it's usually the good guys that go.

BTW did you peek at the falsifying evidence thread? I'd like to see your 2 cents there...

Some of my friends are motorcycle cops and they said the worst thing is when someone turns left in front of you or when you are on a call for backup and your lights and siren is going people will panic and would not know which way to move to let the motorcycle thru.I would be a motorcycle cop if I could ride a Hayabusa and carry a MP5 HK and a 12gadge very short barrel and pistol grip shotgun as backup and wear all the options that the swat team wears for body armor.

Sad But True!! Having knowledge of two fatal accidents and one officer who lost a leg on their personal sport bikes, in their instances they were a bad thing waiting to happen. The last death was the result of a 27 year old who tried to park his ZX-9 in the passenger seat of a Ford pickup at 2:00 AM. He managed to rip the passenger side door and fender from the truck! His speed was estimated at over 100 mph in a 35 mph zone! They all had previously got'en off of numerous traffic stops by flashing their badge. Even FC should know they let squids become police officers too. The only bad part is it gives honost Cops a bad name too! Brian

I think I'll pick up the phone and order those super white bulbs for the Busa now.

If there is anything positive that can be taken from that situation, maybe its that each of us will feel a little more mortal and
stay a bit more alert when riding. It never hurts to say a prayer before you put the bike in gear too. That just might make the difference in those totally unpredictable
mishaps.

Hate to hear it when anyone goes down. My condolences to family and friends.

Anyone else on .org a member of the AMA (American Motorcyclist Association)? I remember reading somewhere in their publications that statistics are showing that you have a greater chance of getting hit when someone makes a left in front of you. But we all should be careful, no matter where "the other guy" is.
The AMA followed extensively the past couple years, the plight of Terry Barnard, a middle-aged man out for a pleasant ride in the mountains of TN, two or three years ago I think, when he got hit by a senator, who LEFT THE SCENE, and was was later charged. Barnard later died. The senator passed away recently. Then in TN, it was voted by state gov't to name a highway after the senator, (instead of a library or something, to honor his otherwise good years or service). Motorcyclists in the AMA thought this to be an insensitive irony to Barnard's memory, and have been working (if not completed) on getting a highway named after Mr. Barnard. In TN. Near the highway named after the senator that struck him.
Again, it's sad when anyone goes down...

Here is an extract about the accident from the "Bergen Record" newspaper.

"According to preliminary reports, LaSalle was traveling south on Knickerbocker Road as the car, a Ford Taurus, began to make a left turn from the northbound side onto Green Tree Terrace.

LaSalle's Kawasaki sport motorcycle clipped the right front fender of the car, throwing LaSalle onto the pavement,Tenafly police said. The officer suffered massive head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,Schwanwede said. LaSalle was wearing a helmet,Schwanwede added."

Seems like every month here in Phoenix another MC cop gets killed(or f**ked up really bad) on his bike. They either get hit in an intersection, or get clipped on the shoulder of the freeway. You couldn't pay me enough to do that job. Poor b*st*rd.
