Ergonomics

What's the best way to "tranform" the Busa into a genuine ST? My body isn't as flexible as it used to be. I suspect I might need more than the Heli Bars 1.25inches of adjustment (closer to the body)...
I can't really understand why EVERY bike cannot be made to fit everyone to perfection because I would have thought the riding position(ergonomics) would be the top priority in every case, depending on the owners physique and the type of riding they do. I know people "build up" stamina, tolerance and muscles to counter the effect, but I would prefer no weight on my wrists altogether for general everyday riding...back and wrist-aches get worse as you get older...
Any advice from 50-60 y.o.'s out there on this kind of Busa adjustments?

Welcome to the oRg! You can do a few things to make her more comfy. You can do bar risers and lower pegs. The Buell peg mod is a favorite, I think TL pegs work as well, but I need others to confirm that. You can also replace the seat and then you should be good to go. Welcome to the oRg, where are you located?

Otto, there are a lot of general answers to this and a bunch of threads floating around on this topic too.

To me, the Busa is a couch, but I like to lay down on the bike on long days and that might not be comfortable to everyone. This one photos is a good illustration of ergonomic seating position while riding in the twisties and how well the bike fits.

But for a position with no weight on the wrists, the usual answers are Heli-bar kits, triple clamp risers, plus different saddles. A Tobin/New Image will lower you down an inch, a Corbin will bowl out the seat for more a tractor-seat shape, and the buell peg mod will lower your pegs an inch if you need that.

Don't forget taller windsceens too if you want to also go that route.

I would lower the pegs and change the seat out to help with the comfort level. The helibars should also help out a lot, but I like to lay down on the tank when I go for long rides. Good luck with your search. :beerchug:

Otto, :welcome:
I'm over 50 and 6'2 235lbs and I love the stock position with a ZG double Bubble windscreen and tank cover and bag to lean on Very comfy and secure for distance and speed.

I have had two Kaw Concours over the years, and believe it or not the Busa is way more comfortable than the Concours. Sitting straight up like Granma in a rocking chair was tough on my back and that same position mile after mile also bothered my hips.
The biggest comfort mod I did on the Busa was throttlemiesters...not only to relieve the right hand but they are just a little longer than the stock barends and it's a more comfortable width for my size.

I also ride with my feet on the passenger pegs the majority of Interstate travel.....which is 90% of my 100 mile RT commute....is another way to get comfy.
Hope this helps....

I raised my bars 1.25" also, but you would be amazed the difference a seat makes, even on your wrists. I had the gel, it was better than stock, but not enough for me. I just got a Corbin, it is SO much better!
If this isn't enough you can buy a new top clamp and use a motocross style handlebar. Looks a little strange, but it will get you more upright.
