Tonight I ventured out into rush hour traffic to go meet some guys for a ride. I got stuck in stoped traffic every couple minutes for almost an hour because these sh!# lickers here in San Antonio cant freakin go when the lights turn green and of course the roads and traffic control SUCK here. Anyway, the temp gauge has never gone over the half-way mark EVER, until tonight. Everytime I stopped it started creeping up all the way to the bottom of the red. Luckily each time it reached it we would start moving. The heat from the engine was burning my legs so bad I had to slide back onto the hump when stopped
. This is the first (and last) time I have ever rode in this much stopped traffic.
Once I finally got a clear shot of open road I grabbed a hand full of throttle all the way to the stop and the engine BOGGED! Almost threw me over the freakin bars. I was like WTF... I knew I wasn't running on empty but I looked anyway and realized I still had at least 1/4 tank. I had about 5 miles to my buds house so I limped her in there and cut it off. At first I thought that maybe the fuel gauge was stuck but I could shake the bike and it would move. I Let the bike sit there with the switch on until the fan went off and then let her sit about another 10 minutes. Just for good measure I opened up the gas cap just in case either there was too much pressure build up from the heat, or possibly a vacuum that was causing it to starve for fuel.
After sitting and cooling down I hit the starter and it just clicked and the engine didnt turn over... Oh SH!#.... so I immediately hit it again and it chugged twice and fired right up. It ran perfect now... So my theory is... It was so hot that it was vapor locking or the fuel was boiling.... or there is something in the engine controller that shuts down the fuel when it suspects its overheating. It was obviously way hot because the starter wouldn't turn it over. What do you guys think?
