Ever seen a Busa Vapor lock?

Tonight I ventured out into rush hour traffic to go meet some guys for a ride. I got stuck in stoped traffic every couple minutes for almost an hour because these sh!# lickers here in San Antonio cant freakin go when the lights turn green and of course the roads and traffic control SUCK here. Anyway, the temp gauge has never gone over the half-way mark EVER, until tonight. Everytime I stopped it started creeping up all the way to the bottom of the red. Luckily each time it reached it we would start moving. The heat from the engine was burning my legs so bad I had to slide back onto the hump when stopped

. This is the first (and last) time I have ever rode in this much stopped traffic.

Once I finally got a clear shot of open road I grabbed a hand full of throttle all the way to the stop and the engine BOGGED! Almost threw me over the freakin bars. I was like WTF... I knew I wasn't running on  empty but I looked anyway and realized I still had at least 1/4 tank. I had about 5 miles to my buds house so I limped her in there and cut it off. At first I thought that maybe the fuel gauge was stuck but I could shake the bike and it would move. I Let the bike sit there with the switch on until the fan went off and then let her sit about another 10 minutes. Just for good measure I opened up the gas cap just in case either there was too much pressure build up from the heat, or possibly a vacuum that was causing it to starve for fuel.

After sitting and cooling down I hit the starter and it just clicked and the engine didnt turn over... Oh SH!#.... so I immediately hit it again and it chugged twice and fired right up. It ran perfect now... So my theory is... It was so hot that it was vapor locking or the fuel was boiling.... or there is something in the engine controller that shuts down the fuel when it suspects its overheating. It was obviously way hot because the starter wouldn't turn it over. What do you guys think?

I don't want to hear about your overheating problems right now! It is 35 degrees here right now! You are lucky to have that kind of problem.

Yeah, the heat is a good problem sometimes.... today its gonna be back to 90 degrees, but its raining so its nasty muggy.

Is "engine ice" better than "watter wetter"?

Yep, second fan is definitely in store as is a manual control for both fans.

I live over in Hunters Creek (near Shavano Creek) and I was going over to Stone Oak area. You couldn't pay me to live over there. It was 6:30PM and 1604 traffic was still backed up to I-10 from Stone Oak Pkwy. I went the whole way to Stone Oak on the frontage road and still had to split lanes to get there. Took me 40 minutes to get from Lockhill exit to Stone Oak.... Never again!

definately a bad spot to be at 6:30, Bitters to 281 would of saved you a ton of time. You might want to look up the temp sensor mod. You move the temp sensor to the other side of the radiator and the fans turns on sooner.

i got a gixer750 fan motor for the second fan and aluminum blades for both along with a switch i can power when i desire. no problems here

If you are going to ride in traffic alot you should get a Muzzy fan and think about a second fan.

Do you guys mount the second fan on the other side behind the radiator or in front?

Also, I would think that wrapping the headers with thermal wrap would help the bike run cooler since the pipes are just inches from the radiator.

What kind of mods are on these bikes to make em overheat

My 06 won't go over mid line after fan comes on! Did they do diff stuff for 06?

I'm still curious to know what caused your bike to act up...

Engine ice did the trick me.
