Exhaust and re-mapping

Is it ok to install a High performance exhaust system without adding a re-programmer to the electronics ??? Im sure it will only help performance, but do you run the risk of fouling plugs or anything if you just add the exhaust to the bike only???

Thanks a Mil ! VERY CLOSE TO MY FIRST "09 BUSA" AND WOULD LIKE TO ADD THE YOSH R 55 SYSTEM RIGHT OFF THE BAT...

You will need a power commander and probably need to play with the air box a bit when you do the exhaust. What you should do is do all the power mods right off the bat at the same time and then have someone make you a dyno tuned custom map. You want to do it all at once and have the map done at the end so you do not waste a few hundred dollars on a map you will toss when you add more mods. I just got done with all this on my 05 and am very happy with it.

If its a brand spanker, I would recommend you run it in first ... my 0.2c

What I was stressing is that you will want to do the power mods all at once. When you do them is entirely up to you of course. Its sounded like you are pretty ready to go on them.

Do you have to re-map if you just change the pipe with no air box mods?
I was going to do a phase one and phase two. Phase one would be the pipe,
Phase two was going to be the air box, PC3 ( ECM Re-flash ?), and nitrous.

If you install any after market full exhaust systems, the bike does need to be re-mapped!

No! It's not a NEED!!! The bike will run better with it, but it will not hurt the engine not to!

our bikes will compensate somewhat for the airflow gain from a full system. However, they run a bit lean from factory so it may not be a good idea to run the bike a lot that way.

I put aftermarket off brand cans on my 06 and it sounds good only didnt want to idle correctly.. SO after looking at both pc3 and flashed ecu.. i opted for the ecu and it made the bike run a lot faster.. idle issue was there.. either idled at 800 or by turning screw barely and i mean barely. would hit 2500. so sent ecu back to be reflashed.. waiting in it to come back. gsxrtune.com in corona, ca.. they are great.. communication has been awesome.. and if it doesn't work out this time, i will send it back and get my funds back...oh and just put on hong kong shorty adjustable levers 2 $40 set and they look and work awesome.. :beerchug:

Will someone please show me there burnt down leaned out blown FI engine, that got that way suddenly and only because of a full exhaust and air filter?
The gen2 doesn't seem to have the idle issues the gen1 does, and most likely because of it's O2 sensor.
Base fuel maps sometimes correct idle problems, but not always, and I've never been impressed with a power commander base map anyway(Nothing wrong with power commander, and there are better tuning devices now too). If you want your bike right after adding exhaust, have a good tuner tune it on a dyno, or just ride it.
Check your sparkplugs if you think your engine is dangerously lean. Ask a trustworthy(that just doesn't want your money)reputable tuner if adding exhaust is going to burn down your engine. Will your bike run better tuned? Of course! Is it something that has to be done or risk destroying your engine? No!
If anyone disagrees that's fine too, but riding it just a little then is a terrible way to think, assuming you already belive you're harming the engine. That's the same thought process as riding it low on oil won't hurt it...if you ride it just a little. Hopefully we all know that always ends bad.
I encourage anyone that can have there bike properly tuned to do so, and those that can't, not to worry about it. It's becoming more common knowledge that a tune is pretty useless for the money for just slipons. Does anyone really belive that there is that much difference in flow from an aftermarket header then? Yes, they are a great improvement, but not dramatic enough to cause engine damage.
Myself and many peolpe I ride with have always let the tune be last thing we've done to any bike(personal preferences) the plugs have always looked good, the engines look great inside countless miles later without any ill effects, and they run smooth and strong.
Tune when you can, don't worry in the meantime. The myth of tune or else needs to die! Again, someone please show me how your engine leaned out and burned down when you added a full exhaust. I'm not saying it didn't have flat spots in the power curve, or wasn't as responsive as you'de prefer, just that your engine was ruined or had it's life dramatically shortened because of an exhaust. Anyone? Anyone at all?
