Exhaust lead seal?

Hey y'all. I'm going back to the stock exhaust for a bit. Pulled the crappy eBay blanks off that the previous owner installed. Found that there is supposed to be a lead circular seal on the part of the header pipes that connect to the mid pipe. They are a PITA to get in the manifold ends after the cat before the mid pipe goes on. Any suggestions on how far down they need to go and a way to get them there? Mine stop flush with pipe. It's number 12 and slides over the header and then the mid pipe goes over that and clamps down? It is really, really tight.

Just enough to be flush with the outside end of the pipes on the header.
Use some dish soap and water, or silicone spray to help them slide on, it won't hurt them and will burn off quickly.

Sweet. Thanks. I felt like it was so tight that had to be the answer, but the mid pipes only go on so far. Wild.
