Exhausts are weight-bearing structural members?

Hi,

The question is mostly in the title. I'd love to replace my exhaust cans (silent poxy things!!), but I load up with side bags, a tail pack and a pillion every now and then and do a bit of distance work.

So with the Busa's 'history' of the subframe problems back with the early revisions, are the exhaust pipes still weight-bearing on the Busa? So is there a risk to replacing them?

Mike.

depending on what year your busa is i wouldnt worry about the subframe issue. I believe the subframes where aluminum for the first couple of years 99 - 00 or 01. After that they changed to steel subframes so you dont have to worry about it breaking on you.

Even if you have aluminum you can usually find a drag racer to trade you even up for a steel one.

i run no exhaust.... no cans or midpipes. They are not a stressed member... keep in mind the nice mushy rubber piece on the rear pegs... I have a steel subframe on my bike too though... not sure about yours. go ahead and replace them you will be fine.
