Just found out I have a warrant out against me for failing to pay a fine for note voting during lockdown in 2020.
We were under a 5km radius limit and 8pm curfew and I was stuck in a different city to my residential address.

Because voting is compulsory, and I didn't even know there was council elections, I missed them - actually I didin't know they were on and couldn't get there anyway.
But because they issued me a fine in 2020 and I haven't received any notification, the fine has now progressed to a warrant and a $400 fine
(Oh, that's on top of my $240 fine for 5kms over the 80 kph, (49mph) limit from 3 weeks ago)

I hate this sh1thole of a place at times, (actually more and more tbh). So over government excessive, over the top control.
Who the f*ck cares about local council election anyway ..

Hi. WOW. In the USA you would been in jail untill you payed your fine. So you would have to brake a law to not brake a law. That is a good way to make money for the government.

Always a tough spot to be on the wrong side of the law, even if it is for a stupid unjust reason such as that.

Can you get a lawyer and fight this? It sounds like you have enough of a case to get it thrown out.

It’s the fact I got pinged for something out of my control that was a direct cause by the state government.
And I voted in the state election 2 weeks ago and nobody said a thing..

You got a ticket for 3.11 mph over the speed limit? I googled the conversion and must have missed something here.
Most speeding tickets are just money orders for the powers that be like the courts.
Most vehicles around this part of the world when traveling on the interstate are speeding,
Usually the speed of 85 mph in a 70 zone will earn you a ticket. Now you can cruise with the county sheriff in his Ford Explorer at 85 along with everybody else and nobody gets ticketed.

3mph over !!- in UK there is 10% +2 mph allowance

I would never accept a speeding ticket for 3 mph over the limit. Just plead you case in a respectful and clear manner and ask the judge to dismiss the case. I realize that won't always work but if you appear clean and talk respectably you might catch a break.

I have been fortunate for years now to win against speeding tickets in my state. As crazy and authoritarian as this state can be sometimes they're are exceptions. So, get your V1 and pick your places and you should be ok. If you find yourself riding with a group of speed freaks you can always hang back and let the front runners find the radar and lazer guns that lurk in the shadows.
