fairing removal

sherm, go back to June 19 and read 'do it yourself oil change', Cisco, tell's it to the "T" hope that helps :-)

Ditto on the damn tabs. I did scratch my bodywork. Be careful putting the farings back on. Get someone to help you guide them back in place.

I'm about to do my first oil change. Any tips or hints on fairing removal? Step 4 on page 52 of the owner's manual says "remove the fasteners (right and left)". I can't figure out from the diagram where these fasteners are located. Any help is appreciated.

It's really pretty simple. I do not have a manual so I just took all screws off of right side fairing, there is 1 screw up by the neck and the hardest to find for me was up under the fairing in front (above front fender) left side there were I think 2 phillips screws that went through the inner fairing liner to the outer fairing. I know this sounds strange but it is the best I can explain!! By the way I had to reallk tweak on my plastic to get it out from under the head fairing, there are 2 or 3 tabs that slide under it... I hope I helped alittle..

If you are not very careful, you will scratch your bodywork with "those tabs".

Then only thing you forgot were the plastic snap lock things, one on the underside of the front fairing nearest the radiator, and the other right on top of the black plastic guard by the gas tank.

These plastic parts are $1.70 USD each, why should I know????? Broke one, and lost one after fairing removal.

Try putting bluepainters masking tape over the seam between the side panel and top fairing seam where the tabs are that way should it slip you wont damage the paint. Usa only the blue painters masking tape as it will not mess up the paint as cheap $.99 masking tape could. Try it, it works.

Then use a razorblade or a sharp knine to cut through the tape and now you have protection on both sides of the fairing seam.

Thanks for the info on removing the fairing. Oil change completed. The only thing that was different was the inner fairing (down near the radiator). On my bike the inner fairing was only fastened to the outer fairing and it came off with the outer fairing. so I didn't unscrew the three phillips heads that hold the inner fairing to the outer fairing.
