Fall from the side stand

Has anyone had the misfortune to leave his/her Hayabusa on a slight incline and watch it FALL!
Is the side stand sufficiently angled to support this bike or is this a case for Suzuki? If there is an engineer that can work out angles of lean against weight then tell me about it when I stop crying.

Thanks

if you are not sure when you put your kick stand down in a little incline, leave it in gear that will stop it from moving foward

The problem with the sidestand is that the pad that comes in contact with the ground has no surface forward of the sidestand arm. When forward force is applied to the bike when it is on the stand, the forward edge of the pad acts like a pivot point for the arm to retract, and the arm retracts - hello scratches, bends and worse.
Suzuki engineers could have come up with a better design, it doesn't have to be this way just because the H is a sport bike.

Do you guys remember that with the initial launch of the Busa on that Spanish track some of the journos/half-racers were scraping the side-stand?

And exactly in the place where the extension to the front (with side-stand down) would be, so maybe that's the reason for this?

Any of you guys scraped the side-stand pad during spirited cornering?

You guys don't have a side stand problem untit you own 916. then you will know what it really is to have a side stand problem!!!

>R PRYOR
Exactly. I'd never considered the issue until I started reading this board. Now I **** myself everytime I park her up. But it is good to be reminded of the dangers from time to time.

I haven't dropped a bike yet and please god don't let my Busa be the first.

I havent had that problem but since my drive way is inclined about 20 degrees. I know exactly what your talking about :) Heres what I do:

1. point it up hill if possible, this is the best option.

2. look for another place ot park close, only if it is convenient.

3. park it pointing down hill :( but sometimes a must even on small inclines. Put the bike in gear. release the brake so that the bikewill roll forward against the gears (you will feel it) put down the sidestand and it will stay up...

GOOD LUCK to the lot of ya. :)

I wouldn't label the Busa as a bike with a bad sidestand! ALL sport bikes with short stands do not work with slight inclines etc. Doesn't matter what bike you are riding.. LEAVE IT IN GEAR! Less chance of someone bumping it forward also to roll over the stand.

Man, you dudes are making me nervous about the sidestand thing. I know how quick it can happen. Had a two week old 750 drop. screwed left fairing and a new arai went bouncing across the cement.. Is the Busa highsiding the stand or rolling off of it??

I had the same thing happen to me, only I saw it start to fall and threw my soft pink bod under it. had to wait until somebody came by to help me get it off of me and back up.

The sidestand is INTENTIONALLY DESIGNED to retract when the bike rolls forward, eg when somebody forgets to retract the side stand before riding away. Somebody once said that the Bus was designed for the lowest common denominator, ie the least skilled rider. At that time they were referring to the slipper clutch. This is another example of that.

What to do? Either replace the Suzi with a Harley side stand, a definite blasphemy or park in gear facing the bike uphill everytime. If it rolls a little it only rolls backwards into the gear and doesn't retract.

I wish I wish I wish I had read this letter before my BUSA rolled forward and fell on it's side. The bad part about it was that I was in the parking lot of a Harley dealer and there were over a hundred Harley's parked.
OOOPS THAT HURTS!!!

Roberto, that must have hurt(pride)a lot. A Hayabusa on its side is still faster than a Harley, even when taking a nap.

Should this ever happen again in a similar location, just look at the onlookers straight in the eye's and YELL "All right who wants to race! I am even throwning down a handicap" while flexing your pectorial muscles.

Nobody messes with a crazy man, even lawyers who ride Harley's.

look closely at sherms stand mod. its simple and works. mine had fallen twice. one just the day after getting it back from being re-painted from the first fall.
i got lucky though.found a brand new suziki side fairing allready painted w/ stickers new in the plastic for 200.00.
hell, thats what it cost me just to get it repainted the first time !
