Faulty trannies

If local suzuki is giving you a hard time, call Suzuki USA or better, write them a letter, be stern, but to the point.

Good luck.

Why don't you adjust your shifter or you could lube the shifter pivoit or do a search about this very commond problem and read your owners manual

Already been there doc. They don't care if the bike has five miles it still isn't covered. It is considered normal wear and tear. Gotta love that huh. I told the local dealer to go ahead and plan on storing it for the winter because I wasn't paying to fix it. The thing that really sucks is that the dealer told me if it was a yamaha that it would already be fixed under warranty. Basically I will end up having to go to court and sue them to get it fixed.

My transmission has the same problem.  It is a 2003 with 2700mi. on it.  It started at 1500mi with a little clunk in first gear under hard acceleration.  It got so bad that i had to pull the motor apart and found that 1st gear was rounded and that the shift fork was damaged.  I would agree that it was poor shifting if it was any gear other than 1st.  I have owned my bike since it was new .01 miles.  Fifth gear was always hard to engage from day one and would sometimes grind no matter how hard you pulled on the shifter.  I have a air shifter and clutch mods done pulling 1.49 60ft times.  My belief is that this is a problem but not big enough for Suzuki to care yet.  Let the 2003s get a little older and we will find out if it is a driver error or problems with gear clearances and engagement dogs.  I think it is a little of both at this time.  When I had my transmission apart the gears did not seem to be engaging enough causing in 1st to wear and then slip.  I sent my transmission out to be undercut and stronger shift fork shafts installed.  Undercutting the transmission will pull the engagement dogs together under load allowing alot longer life out of this torque monster.  If you let Suzuki put replacement parts in without checking the shift drum and gear clearances this will happen again.  I have built alot of turbo and nitrous powered vehicles so I know alot about broken parts.  As far as your warranty it is hard to prove a defective part.  It is alot easier for them to write it off as user abuse.  My recommendation is to call and write the factory not your dealer, his hands are tied.  As far as going to court it would cost you more time and money than it is worth.  My vehicle has to many custom parts to apply for warranty at this point and that is why I am fixing it myself.  Good luck!!!!! :beerchug:

Sue them, Suzuki and the dealer. It should be under warranty. And I disagree with it costing more money. If the estimated cost of repair is <$5000 then it's consider a small claims and you can file for a suit with the court in jurisdiciton for around $50 (that's for So. Cal). Beauty is since it's small claims, no lawyers are allowed from either side. And with that low milege and within warranty period, it won't look good to the judge (even if he/she isn't a rider) for Suzuki / dealer. Oh, I mentioned to list the dealer because you can list more than one "party" in a single suit for $50. Might as well get them too, worst case for you is the judge rules them non-party and dismiss them. But at first glance it will give them some hassle and the dealer might be able to persuade Suzuki into covering it.
