Fear of getting flashed

No not that kind of flashing.. so my Arata system will be here later this week and I’m getting antsy about flash vs full tune. I’ve had plenty of bikes tuned before, most of them I’d say turned out excellent. On the other hand, some ran great, most of the time, but had little quirks. In searching around here, I notice that someone will complain about jerky throttle or low speed stumble etc, then others jump in to agree. Often times there is a workaround that kinda resolves the issue but still sounds annoying. Im looking for a very well mannered, PMS free, better looking and sounding result. I called a well known sport bike tuner in the area today and he quoted me 900-1100 for a tune, I almost fell out of my chair.

Those who have been flashed or tuned, or maybe both? Am I overthinking this like usual?

Even if you don't track your bike, a visit to an open track day should allow you to connect with those who have strong opinions about local tuners.

HTH!

[EDIT] Start with the advanced-group riders

I’d go for a full ecu flash, can easily be returned back to stock if anything did go wrong. There are different flash softwares aswell as Woolich.

When u say “full ecu flash”, do you mean a full tune at a local shop?

Agreed. The person I spoke to about a custom tune today is the preferred tuner from a few racers I spoke with.

I've ran the MM flash tune for around 3k miles and the only thing I didn't like was the twitchy throttle. It's not noticable anywhere but low speed and 1st gear. I hit up MM to ask about sending it back, then suggested trying Mode B on the flash. Twitchy throttle feels much more like stock, just more responsive. Been happy at Mode B ever since, also find it easier to make flames and bangs on Mode B.

I'm likely the minority being content with B on a flash tune, most want full power when they want it. It is a bandaid in a sense, but a usable one.

Same boat as you. Low speed 1st gear turns that require minimal throttle are very jerky. Luckily the turns I've encountered didn't have the typical loose gravel or other small debris....... Can't imagine if I had to ride this tune in an offroad area or typical rural intersections. B mode smooths this out perfectly. Haven't tried C mode yet but thank goodness we have these options to begin with. Wondering how the Brocks clutch upgrade might make this better.

where are you located? I have dealt with Two Wheel Dynoworks in the Seattle Washington area for about 15 years for dyno tuning initially when ECU flashing was more of a concept than a reality. Two Wheel Dynoworks is now a real fan of ECU tuning over adding power commanders or any secondary tuning aids. Look them up online. They offer a mail in ECU flash service. They are also open to telephone discussions. Im my opinion they are the best of the best.

I rode in B mode when I had an MM flash for the same reasons. A mode was awesome on the highway. B mode in canyons and on streets

Why not just make A mode's off idle throttle response like it is in B mode?
As all it is would be a small change to air/fuel and/or ignition in a few cells.
And for the throttle closing abruptly, or a choppy feeling or direct cut off of fuel, the injectors just need to taper off slowly, like turning off a faucet...vs a light switch.
I can agree that the MM dyno tune and flash on the '18 Gsxr1k is awesome...but sucks off idle, as it is very switch like as well.
I don't like the idea of anyone being so race oriented, that they won't spend a few extra minutes to make a bike much more streetable, especially when that part of the map would have no adverse effects on the rest of the tune.
It's also BS to say 'just run it in B mode'.
If I wanted B mode power...I wouldn't be modding the bike to begin with.
I want the A tune without the choppy throttle opening/closing...and it's Not hard to do...it's just being lazy.

One of my biggest concerns about going with a BT flash was that it would somehow be worse, but the BT flash is better low spots sub 3K rpm. The MM flash/CS stack combo was still smoother midrange cruising than BT (which feels like it’s always trying to accelerate) but BT is much better down low and up top.

Great, so still 2 different maps.
I'm trying so hard not to hate the gen3, lol
I'm definately going to have to ride one before I buy one now.

No the BT flash I ride in A 100%. 3-6K it likes to feel like it wants to keep pulling where the MM tune felt happier cruising. That also might be in the stacks, I switched from MM/Carbon smith to BT stacks and flash at the same time
