The first owner of my 99 busa left the rotor lock on the bike and moved the bike a broke a chunk out of the front fender ..I have the part that broke off but what do i use to put it back on?? Or can it be put back on? or should i get a new fender? ..Thanks Lee..

Lee,

It can be fixed by a good paint shop that specializes in bikes - they have plastic welders. But the fix and the repaint would probably cost more than finding a good used one on Ebay. You could also post here that you are looking for a fender - just state year and color.

Good Luck

Rough up the backside of the joining pieces of damaged plastic  with 80 grit sandpaper extending about 4"s from the center of crack. Then laminate the crack with matglass brushing or "dabbing" on a polyester resin you can buy from walmart or and an automotive store. You can also cover the patch area with some masking tape then roll back and forth the roll of tape over it to remove air bubble and level the repaired surface.
Be sure to pre cut your patches of glass mat before you start mixing your polyester resin because time isnt on your side when playing around with this stuff.  I would suggest apply aleast 4 layers of glass mat, also  be carefull in what you use to mix the resin because it will  dissolve most plastic containers. I like to use, used country crock butter bowls .

Forget everything but this.  Buy a cheap soldering iron for around $10-$15 with an assortment of tips at the hardware store. Match the broken piece up to the area it came from. Heat the soldering iron and tape the piece back into place on the visible side in order to work from the inside. Using a broad tip with the iron at full operating temperature. Slowly and gently touch the seam/crack so that you "sweep" the molten plastic over the cracked area. You can use a circular motion once you have effectively covered the crack with molten and now hardened plastic. Do not get too anxious and JAB or gouge the plastic with the iron, just try to achieve as uniform a repair as possible on the inside of the piece. This should give you the results you desire. If you are a perfectionist you can experiment with repairing the painted side but I would advise against that. However you can use rough sandpaper 80 or 60 to rough up the painted side if you intend to have it repainted. Once it is rough you can go ahead and use the iron on the crack and repeat the melting, sweeping, circular motion until you have made the repair indistinguishable. Then sand it again, prime it and topcoat. It is a very easy process and once you do it one time you will probably want to go into business doing it yourself because it is such a piece of cake.
Forget about fiberglass bondo and plastic body filler because when it comes to motorcycle plastics you can easily accomplish a very aesthetically pleasing repair.

The fairings are a ABS 'thermal plastic'. Can heat it up to bend into new shapes. Melted to form new casts or welded together to form a single structure.
Plastic weld from the underside out of sight. May see a hairline fracture along the crack on the outside.
Weld from both sides for best results. Needs to be painted tho.
Plastic adhesives that melt a thin layer of plastic and meld the joint together. Stuff is like a two part super glue.
