First Busa

I am on the cusp of owning my first Busa. I am 43 and have been riding since I was 16. '73 cb750k (first), then on to '81 seca 550 (still have it), fzr750, and gsxr 1100. also have a fair amount of time on a 929rr and a Buell XB9R. My question is this; How easily does the rear tire break loose when on the throttle leaving a corner. I live to turn. I want a bike that I can ride for miles without a sore butt (unlike 929). Is the bike predictable? Does it slide predictably? or does it happen all at once? I know that tire selection plays an important part in this situation, but any first hand info would be appreciated.

I'd say its all about throttle control. The bike's power is very smooth as long as your hand is smooth. I live to accelerate out of corners. May day is made when I get a little power wheelie as I exit the corner

With the stock Bridgestones, I sometimes would accidentally break the rear loose and slide a little but never lost it. As soon as the stock tires were worn out, I use pirelli diablos, metzler sportec M1s, and Dunlops D208s. I haven't broke any of those loose coming out of corners, but I'm sure if you really tried to you could.

There are a lot of guys on the board that do track days and have scrapped the engine fairing while leaning. The Busa has power, but is very forgiving.

I've never had my rear tire slide out on me except for when it was cold and the road was cold. I don't however ride like a racer, I get on it at times but I am in no hurry to slide along the pavement.

Welcome to the board. Trust me, this bike will not disappoint you. I personally haven't had the rear tire break loose all that much, but I also haven't tried a whole lot either.

only time i had the tire break loose was with the stockers. The diablos grip great....too great but they grip

Tires, ( I dont like the BT56 ) throttle and rpm. I tend to leave a corner at no more than about 5K rpm so not too much torque and wheel spin. Just my 2 cents.

Its basically like driving a big-block power delivery wise. Its got monster torque...a whole diff world than your 1100. You get the power like NOW! But its also VERY smooth and predictable....very easy to ride in the twisties I think once you get your wrist calibrated

But there's NO delay between the time you twist the throttle and when the power comes on...that'll be your biggest prob with rear tire traction.
Enjoy your new ride and welcome to the Brotherhood of Busa'!

The busa is very predictable and forgiving ...

I'm like "him", I've only had the stockers break loose on me from time-to-time, but have never had a problem with the Metzeler Sportec M1's. Great tire!!

The power delivery is very linear, it's directly related to how much you twist the throttle. There are no sudden power surges (like on a two-stroke or some turbos) to catch you out. Having said that however, there's a lot of power available, and things start to get interesting above 5K...

Warm your tires up before any serious scratching/leaning. I choose routes where I cruise through town a little before I go out in the country and attack the twisties.

I high sided mine, but the rear broke loose because of a ton of dirt and then it caught again. If the road is clear you shouldn't have to worry about it

Did you let off the throttle? We are not at the mercy of the pebbles on the road man , only our fears.

You should have rolled the thottle even more when the tire broke loose....yes this would require a great deal of dicipline.

I dont mean to pick you out but this is important IMO.

I've gotten the BT56 to break free lot's. I've never lost it on them. Then my M1's i got next, VERY sticky!! so I got cocky and would blast out of the corners. lost on and then kept loosing it. LOST IT. The HPX pilots are sticky too. So, it will break free but never without you doing it on purpose!! Enjoy

To answer the origional question, I have the stock tires on and the back does not loose traction too ofton for me in turns, but when it does it's smooth and forgiving(it's only happened to me on dry smooth pavement). I don't try to loose traction, but after the first time i got the front wheel off the ground coming out of a corner I like to get on the throttle at the end of the turns alot. In fact, it usually doesn't strike me at first that my back wheel is loose untill i hear a chirp, but for the first milliseconds or so i can tell something doesn't feel right. my only other motorcycle i've had or ridden is a honda nighthawk 750, so i can't tell you how the busa compares to the other sportbikes, but i've locked the rear up several times and lost some traction coming out of the corners on stock tires, and it seemed controllable.
