Can ya tell I've spent most of the day researchin' ridin' gear? First boots and now jackets...

Anyway, anybody here got a Firstgear Leathertex leather/synthetic combo SPEED jacket? Looks like a nice piece. I eventually want to go full leather but I can't afford to get full leather now and then again every time I lose enough weight that it doesn't fit. I'm thinkin; that goin' with this leather/synthetic combo garment will save me a few bucks while offering at least a TON more protection than long sleeve h.org t-shirts which is what I've been wearin'.

I made a little extra side money recently and was gonna dump it into Da' Train's paint job but I am really thinkin' I should buy gear before I spend anymore on the busa it's self. All the dumps and spills lately, combined with my rusty ass skills on my first real ride of the year have me a little more safety conscious than I've been so far. Also, Revlis may disown me if I don't get SOME sort of safety gear.

Any feedback on this jacket? Thoughts on it?

Yeah, I think it looks pretty sweet and it's pretty versatile as well. I found posts on various forums sayin' that with the lining in and the built in thermoneck pulled up it's good down to around 50 degrees. The same posters say that it's comfortable well into the 80's and even 90's with the lining removed. That's a pretty good temp range for a jacket. Should cover ALL my cool weather ridin' and I should be able to survive the hot weather as well.

Cool, thanks for the feedback. Is it well made? I've heard good things about FIRSTGEAR but ya just never know...

Ya, it seems to be. Its heavy enough so that it doesnt blow up like a balloon on the freeway. It has two zippered vents in the front and in the back and I have used it in a variety of temps and its always been comfortable. This is my first Firstgear product and I happy so far.

BT, I did the same thing you are doing right now about a month or so ago. I wouldn't say it was an epiphany, but I did realize that I needed something other than jeans and a t-shirt to ride in. I got the First Gear Mesh Tex 2 jacket and love it. The temperatures haven't been up enough that I need to remove the liner unless I am just walking around. I also got the First Gear HT Air Overpants which are coordinated with the jacket and also work well. With them I can wear whatever I want underneath and have protection. They also come with a liner which I haven't removed yet. All in all I am very pleased with the First Gear apparel. I may upgrade to full leathers or at a least a 1-piece suit, but didn't have the money to foot that bill right now.

BT, this looks like First Gear's own version of the Leather Tex they make for Suzuki, of which I own 2. If you look in the Suzuki catalog, you'll see thier leather-tex which is actually made by first gear. Its an excellent jacket, fully capable of the temp ranges you mentioned, and the protection is the next best thing to full leather. It does get hot in the summer if you spend much time sitting in traffic, but once your moving about 25mph, the vents work very well.

Just my fuggin' luck.

I call to see about ordering the damned thing and they say that size XXXL has been discontinued. They only have XXL and XXXXL. So, I get ready to plunk down the $$ for some gear and can't find my size. On on the hunt now to try and find one in stock somewhere. I'm pretty much set on this jacket, too. Anyone have a source for FIRSTGEAR stuff they could check for a SPEED jacket in black size XXXL?

Haven't found one on the web yet. I'll search further on my off days this week. Any assistance in trackin' one down would be GREATLY appreciated.

DUDE... Uh... Not to be wise ass, I know I nagged you into this but don't forget to check into some real basic Mesh gear from NewEnough Or RSD's crew. Keep it simple, Under $150 simple in my opinion, cause your gear should fit a little snug and when you start dropping you do not want to have 2 or 3 old oversized jackets cluttering up the gear closet...

Looks like I may be goin' that route after all... I wanted a bit more protection than mesh but I may have to settle until I lose more weight.
