Got my first ride in yesterday! I just can't believe the roll on power. Goes like a rocket...stops like a Mack Truck. The brakes suck! I can't believe Suzuki put the same brakes components on a 1300 that is on their 750. What kinds of mods have you guys done to the brakes? Funny thing when I started to take my helmet off it was really hard to get off....my head had swelled and my face had this humongus smile that just won't go away!!!!!!!!!! 'Busa RULES, baby!

I bet you have less than 100 miles on the bike.
If they are new and the dealer did not clean the factory slime that protects them it will stop like ****,if they did clean them it take about 100 miles of hard braking to seat the pads.

Yea, you won your bet, I have only about 50+ miles on the bike. I should have thought of the slime, as everthing else was covered with it. I'm sure the dealer did not clean the pads, as I took the bike, well, what you might say, straight from the crate. Thanks, I will give it more time and hope the brakes improve.

Falconfool, I still wasn't completely happy until I got braided lines on mine. They weren't really bad, but felt spongy. Now they are great!

its not just brakes you should we aware off. i dropped my 'busa on the first bend at '0' miles an hour! slick road and tyre release agent the cause! Bridgestone recommend cleaning the tyres with white spirit before use. but it's not in your hand book. i couldn't have gone slower at the junction, the bike only traveled 8 ft, but it cost $1000 to fix. bridgestone said that their tyres at your local service centre don't suffer to the degree that new bikes suffer. don't now why.

Ouch, bigabusa, that must've hurt, with all your experience and then such a truly silly crash, painful even if you're not physically hurt!

BTW, also remember your Nitrous Busa having a freak sort of accident in the back of a van if my memory serves me right?

Were you ever able to sell that XX in a Blade frame that PB destroyed on a roundabout?

Exactly! I let one of my best friends help me break in the 'busa and he intitially complained about the breaks. By the end of the day he didn't mention them. The next day I was stopping the rocket as if I ran into a wall and crushing my 'nads in the process.

If you need more serious stopping power (Adios cojones!!) I hear AP Racing manufactures a top product.

I don't like the brakes but haven't got the sort of spare cash to stretch to the PFM kit I lust after.

As an interim measure I've fitted stainless steel braided brake lines (£50) and Carbon Lorraine SBK3 pads (£45) which have made the brakes better, more responsive and less spongy, even the standard set up feels far better if you bleed it regularly, try that first!

It must be the weight of the bike that makes the brakes seem poor, the almost identical setup on GSXR750s and Kawasaki ZX9Cs are the dogs bollox, mucho power and feel.

The back brake is as useful as a Chocolate Fireman, hardly any power and to annoy me even more the pedal keeps seizing requiring weekly lubrication!

I see some of you feel like I do about the brakes...they feel spongy. Sounds like a good set of braded lines and naturally a bleed job is in order.

Bigabusa..sorry to hear about your spill. That was a real bummer. I always scuff the new tires in real slow or wash them down first to get the manufacture residue off. Want to hear a good one? One of the local cruiser guys put Armor All on his tires...looked really good, crashed really hard!

What's the part number, price and vendor of the Goodrich brake lines? Did you put kevlar lines on the rear too?

My first impression. Everything about the bike is fine. But I'm a tinkerer. I think I can make it even better with a few thoughtful mods.

My front brake lines start as a single line from the MS then to a "T" before going to each caliper. Has anyone fit two lines from the MS yet, if so share the part numbers please?

Guess I might go with Yosh -2 lines (2) for a bit better feel.

Waltman,

I have been riding bikes for 29 years and I know when brakes suck..and the 'Busa's brakes SUCK. I agree with you practice is the thing..but first let's get something to practice with!

I think the Goodrich lines are the ones. You guys, as well as, my bike shop manager have recommended them to me. He rides a Honda Hawk and said the brakes were greatly improved on his bike by adding these lines....and he used the 2-line race system. My order should be placed tomorrow.

FF, get the Goodrich kevlar lines installed, with DOT 6 and you'll see, big difference, specially at high speed. I may switch to a better set of brakes when the time comes, for now I'm happy with mine.

I just added the Goodrich kevlar brake lines with stock brakes. 3220 miles and "stops on a dime" wet or dry. I say you guys have no skills to use your brakes, practice breaking or you will regret it, as I see many of you are screwing up.

Try EBC 'HH' brake pads in the front. The initial bite is MUCH improved (no more waiting) and the effect feels much more linear to me. The pads will keep me happy for awhile, I don't feel the need to change hoses yet.
