Hello all,

New here and wanted to share what I did today. I sure hoped that Suzuki would have taken care of this from the factory for those who like to switch between seat and cowl without any tools but oh well.

cheers!

Over here in OZ , because the new Busa does not come with the seat cowl standard , it is not eligible to use this aero aid in some land speed classes . I would remove the grab rail to clean up the back , but might be a hassle to remove I guess if you often take pillions .
I bought the cowl separately and it is nothing but a couple of bolts to change, I just prefer the simplicity of taking one off and slapping the other one on without tool and the also the looks.

Is it just the angle of the pic or is the hump smaller than the Gen 1 or 2? Looks like there is more space between the hump and grab rail on the Gen 3. Still a very useful mod, IMO.

Would you say it’s still worth it even though cops are using Lidar as well?

Absolutely. Every traffic cop could have a radar unit in their vehicle which can operate while standing or while moving. Laser requires a stationary clear view (not thru a windshield) ‘shooting’ position using a hand held ‘gun’. Radar reads the nearest target coming at or going away from the radar unit. A laser gun is capable of scanning a group of targets and can then focus on the highest speeder, even if he’s not the leading target, and then wham, the image and speed of whoever the cop focused on is caught. Almost no one can react in time to avoid a laser hit. A radar hit, which is most commonly used by traffic cops can be detected more than a mile away and even around curves when no cop can be seen (and) no cop can see you. They can hear you if they have the sound activated on their unit but the actual speed is not registered on their unit until they can actually see you. Sometimes a radar unit will detect the larger target over the speeder. I’ve passed a semi heading towards one of those stationary speed trailers when I was doing 60+ but the speed trailer had the truck’s speed shown as 40 something. Ignored my speed completely. At the investment of around $500, considering the cost of a fine and ‘court‘ costs with or w/o traffic school fees if you’re eligible, not to mention a possible hike in insurance fees, it pays or itself right away. Keeps on saving too.

Thanks for the informative reply. I will look into investing in one now. I see @groran1000 suggested the valentine. Which model of this brand would you suggest?

I think Mike Valentine is selling two versions now, the improved model and the latest ‘new and improved’ model. Mine is the upgraded so called older version which works quite well. Keep in mind that any

basic unit has sounds and lights, neither of which you can see or hear at speed on a bike. Great for in the car but not on a bike especially in bright sun. They also sell a small unit called an audio adaptor which is required for wearing earbuds. I got tired of wearing those years ago and bought a ten LED light display from this guy (Motorcycle Radar Detector Visual Alert) that connects to the audio unit that Valentine sells. I give up knowing which radar band is activated but I’ve learned how to use the V1 over the years well enough that I don’t need to know. Around here for example, almost all traffic cops use Ka band. Some city or county cops use K band but almost never these days. X band is useless and I can tune the V1 to ignore useless hits.
