First Ride on Q3's

I ran through 2 sets of Bridgestone BT016 Pro's averaging about 4,000 miles (on each set, with more than 1/2 of that mileage in the mountains). Overall they were decent tires but I just never felt "connected" to them. They were pushed to the edges and never did anything wrong, steering was neutral and traction was always there, so other than feeling somewhat stiff of sharp edge bumps there isn't much to complain about. I decided to try the Q3's and I must say I am impressed so far. My wife and I completed 675 miles in two days, with all but 120 miles being mountain riding and so far I really like them. The steering quality, bump absorption and traction are all excellent and there is very little tire squirm. They remind me a lot of the Dunlop GP211's in just about every way which is a really good thing in my book. Last week I was able to go for a ride through the mountains solo and came away even more impressed. I typically ride very conservatively on the street, but did wick it up through a small section of the road to scrub the tires in to the edges (can't have any chicken strips) but found you damn near have to be dragging your knee's to use all of the tires up. It's extremely good to know there is that much cushion available if it was ever needed. Overall, I now have just at 900 miles on these tires, I really like them and would not hesitate to recommend them based on performance. Not sure what the mileage will end up being so i cannot comment on that.

As a footnote, these tires have made me fall in love with the Busa all over again and were an excellent match to my revalved and correctly sprung suspension.

I can't wait to get them on my GSXR 1000. I have a feeling they are going to be my new go to tire. I was going to try the Road smarts on my Busa since most of my riding on the Busa is 2 up and somewhat reserved, but just for way they feel I'm glad I didn't.

I just realized this is my first post and picture of my bike since hitting Bambi. It's good to be back! Even though I log on quite a bit I'm not a very active poster as you can tell.

Yup, Q3's are great on the Busa. Expect the rear to wear pretty quick. I average around 1500-2000 miles. I thought it was because the Q3 was soft but after running the same on my S1000rr, I believe the engine braking of the Busa is to blame. The S1000rr coasts when I let of the gas vs the Busa, which definitely has significant engine braking. Amount the best qualities of the Q3 is how they perform consistently even when worn completely smooth. My Conti Attack II's on the other hand would get unpredictable at the half wear mark.

I think your mileage will suffer, but the added grip/confidence make it worthwhile.

P.S. That's a sharp paint job :)

Thanks for the compliment on the paint Skydivr. The plan was black and white with a little blue pearl. The result is the black looks blue in the light. I didn't really like it at first, but my wife loved it. It's grown on me and I've finally come around to where I like it as well. The white came out perfect with just the right amount of blue pearl. I'm still on the fence regarding the wheels as I'm not a huge fan of the polished parts.

Just mounted up my Q3 tires on Sat.
First rides with a 190/55 on the rear.

So far so good.

When I changed the tires I set both to 40psi.
I just checked them and the rear was at 36 so I moved it to 38. The front was 39 and moved it to 40.
Much easier to check with the 90 degree valve stems.

Loaded down and 2 up I ran 42 rear 38 front and everything worked good. Solo I ran 38 rear and 36 front and again they felt really good, but again I wasn't pushing them. The profile of these tires are pretty dramatic and running my normal pace I didn't scrub the rears all the way to the edge, yet the Bridgestone's would have been. Definitely a little extra tire to work with.

I have had the first quailifer's, the Q2's, and a rear roadsmart with a q2 front combo. I really liked the Q2 with the roadsmart rear. I picked up some Pirelli diablo's at cycle gear because of the price. they seem fine. But I think the next set of tires I run will be a rear roadsmart and a q3 front. The rear will last longer with the combo. I ran Michelin power pure's on my 750. While they were awesome, I don't think I would get enough life out of them on the busa to be worth it for street use.

That's what I'm going to do when I run out of Q2 rears, a roadsmart rear.
