I looked inside my fmu and did not see a shim.
i noticed others here on the board are useing a shim so where exactly does it install and what does it do?
Thanks, ???

which brand of FMU do you have?
and do you have any pics of how far down you have it now?
maybe that would help us a bit??

It's a BEGI ( 2007 ), I re-assembled it but here is what was i found.
1. top with needle valve, vacuum port and adjusting screw for the low side
2. pressure spring with washer on top.
3. diaphram with plunger on bottom side.

I did not go any farther with dissassembly. did not see any shim anywhere.
Thanks

it should be part of the diaphragm
there is a gasket type of material (rubber and a shim (square))

i was referring to pictures of it taken apart

the thinner one is known to wrinkle and fail cause major engine damage if not caught in time
sometimes they will spike and lock injectors and other times they fail and dont build FP like they should
they also squeal when they fail (loud whine from FMU)

That's exactly the problem i have when the engine is hot and i restart it for a ride. Sometimes it will whine at startup and if i restart the engine several times the whine will go away.
Thanks
