I took off .. 1 side fairing ..then used a .. laser to ..target n line up the allenhead ..then reapplied the side fairing .. then drilled on the " dot" .. came out "bitchin" ( use a holesaw ) ..after a ..pilothole.

.or you can use the tri-angle-u-late ..method .. n there should be a link on 1 of the posts .. In Hb.org ... least I saw ( 1 ) .. Let me ..check n get back to you .. or try the.. take off your side fairing n use the "apply paint or clay then re-apply side fairing ..then .. apply "pressure' to the side fairing then drill from the backside.. anyways. I'll go look .. for said .. " posting"

sweet bra. thanks for the info. i really like the laser idea. now when you start to drill i would guess you need to keep the drill level with the ground instead of flush with the fairing to get a proper hole. but that looks like the best idea. did you use a centerstand? im guessing the race stand will be good as long as the scooter stays absolutly still through the marking of the hole. now when you drilled did you use any tape or anything. i want as clean of a hole as i can get. ive seen alot of pics of the hole and most look great. thanks again for the info rdkill.

shows how I did mine. I thought the laser method was susceptible to a couple mm or more of potential error, and I wanted them perfect.

You have to use a stand then if done correctly the laser is dead on perfect. you first drill a small hole just to verify it's 100% correct, if not you can adjust, remember it gets drilled out by the larger hole cutter if you somehow made a little mistake. Do not drill the larger hole until you get the small pilot hole correctly placed over the center of the bolt.
Mine are so tight I have to take off the sliders to remove the fairing.

I just saw an article about installing frame sliders on the Parts 411 web page. They used play dough putty instead of the laser level, but used a drill press for the slider hole.

Some key suggestions when using a holesaw to cut the fairing:

1. Cut from the inside of the fairing.

2. Turn your drill to the "reverse" setting as this will make for a smoother cut and won't damage the paint on the other side.

3. Use the sanding drum on your dremel at low speed to clean it up.

4. Place the fairing on a piece of cardboard (face-down) to do the cutting.

5. It's a good idea to have someone around to hold the fairing down before cutting.

Hope all this helps. After I did mine for the first time, I became fairly confident. I've done a few more since then, and my technique hasn't failed yet. Good Luck!

The problem with the putty is the bolt doesn't touch the fairing and making sure it does not shift. I tried the putty way and did not get the results I liked. The laser will not shift so you know it's in the correct location.
Then do what bacharles says, that the way to put the hole in.

now i am having a problem choosing the sliders...so many choices. i like the chrome/billet, but i dont think it will be the best choice. what are your opinions fellas?

nah im gonna do the work myself(dealer sucks a$$). then i know whats up and i can only be mad at myself

Can anyone tell me where the frame slider bolt is screwed into.  I had the right side fairing off, expecting to find an unused hole/threads just waiting for my slider bolt.  That was not the case.  I bought the sliders off of eBay...they didn't come with any instructions/suggestions...and when I emailed the seller, he replied, "remove one of the engine mounting bolts".  Any suggestions/ideas from those of you that have installed 'em?  I've read the posts on how do do the cutting, I just don't know where to cut.
