As you've probably heard colorado got pretty well blasted with snow. Got up this morning at 315 to go out and start shoveling and to make sure i made it to work on time, get to work at about 445. Had shoveled about 12" of snow, sidewalk, my regular driveway(have a 5th wheel pad on the side) and the sidewalk to my front door. Had the most horrible day of all time and finally got home about 7pm, had about 6" of snow where i had already shoveled so decided to knock it out tonight so i can try and sleep in tomorrow. (actually knowing i will be in no condition to go out and shovel ) Always amazes me because generally i try and hit as many of the neighbors driveways as i can, not for money just because i try to be that good neighbor, so they somewhat turn they're backs when i have loud trucks or rowdy shindigs and avoid the police getting called, and most of my neighbors are older. Low and behold i get home, everyone elses driveway and sidewalks are shoveled, except mine:banghead:

Halfway done with the sidewalk this kid, maybe 13-15 yrs old comes up the street with a shovel and goes hey man i can take care of that for you, Hmmm not a bad idea, well how much. Well i'll do the sidewalk and one part of the driveway (as in i have a 2 car driveway plus the 5thwheel pad so 3 "parts" total) For 60 bucks, i'll do the whole thing for 100 ::11

So not trying to be an a$$ i go seriously, 60 bucks and the sidewalks half done. his response was yea man but i'll do the whole thing for $100
"your not getting much business are you"
No i'm really not, how'd you know

Umm well your shovels pretty clean there bud, but no thanks i can finish this up myself.

Seriously 60 bucks for 1/3 of my driveway and the sidewalk and i have half the snow depth of everyone else since i hit it this morning???:rofl:

I remember when i was younger we were lucky to pull $5 bucks a house, $10 if we were really really really lucky. What the hells wrong with kids

thats crazy seriously i got 20 for a big driveway like yours and 10 for normals buts im just short of 30 you 5 was the same as my 10 haha... but 60 seriously, i would have been like 20 and you got a deal haha

I'm only 26 but was in kind of a small town, clearly the wrong part of town, starting to think those people were hosing me all those years

The problem is that some lazy bastard with a lil cash would give him 100 bucks so he expects to get from everybody !!! But you are right, Im 29 and all we ever got was 5 - 10 bucks. Until my dad got a tractor... 25 - 30 was still the max for normal drives!!!

He has to cover overhead and since self employed he probably falls in a 30% tax bracket. Plus liability insurance. You know all that good stuff. :banghead:
Was he going to give you a receipt?

2 things affect the price

1) He really doesn't want to shovel drive ways

2) He really doesn't need the money, he will get money whether he shovels or not from somewhere else

i'm 42 and i used to get to shovel them for free :banghead: seriously, my parents used to lend me out to people and tell them all they had to do was feed me before bringing me back home...i was lucky if i got a $5 tip for working all day

DAM!!!! How much did you eat at home that they rented you out for the cost of food :rofl::rofl:

Has inflation hit us this hard?

there were 5 people left when i moved from my parents house at 18 years old and dad said his monthly food bill cut in half

He's been reading his economics book "charge what the market will bear" but he musta slept thru the "supply/demand/price" section...

Paying you with food can be a dangerous risky move

Honey, the good news is that the driveway is clean, but so is our fridge :poke:

you got off lucky..the kids i knew wouldnt even carry a snow shovel...they'd just demand the $100 or?...

slip-n-fall while making a snowman on your ill kept property and have their parents sue your homeowners insurance.

:banghead:

I find it strange nobody has asked you how large is the driveway or how long is sidewalk?
He tried you on. Natural born salesman he is. Profit aint a dirty word.
He will do fine later in life.

All do respect Mr. BlancaBusa, unless he has a driveway about a half mile long and a sidewalk as big as Wally world.... It still shouldn't be 100 $$$..... But you are correct if he stays with that kind of attitude, he will be well off later on in life!!! Cuz like I said some lazy bastard will pay him. Money is made off of other ppls laziness and convenience!!

I was actually kinda also curious about no one had asked how big my driveway was

I'd guess sidewalk from property line to property line as around 50-60ft
Driveway is standard 2 car driveway width and length not 100% sure but my crew cab long bed truck nosed to the garage door has about 4ft behind it.

I wouldnt have a problem paying if it was someones kids i knew, like my buddies daughter is trying to get a new bike and he is making her work for the money  had she come up and wanted like 40 to do it i would have payed up in a heartbeat even though its ridiculous money. But i'm not lazy and can do all that stuff myself. I woke up pretty sore this morning, between the long day and all the shoveling i was still debating taking my shovel around and knocking on the doors of the people around here that arent shoveled to make some quick cash lol.

I dunno, I think the kid is smart. All he has to do is find one person willing to pay it. And he probably will. So instead of shoveling 6 driveways for $60, he winds up shoveling one. Same profit at end of day with less work.
