Front Wheel Removal w/o Stand

your best bet is to invest in a centre stand

you can then safely jack under the sump, because there is little weight then as the pivot point is closer to the centre of the bike.

THis also allows complete unhindered removal of the swingarm.

cheap, easy to install, easy to take off. Just the job

I got one. Don't know what you're missing till you get it!!

Nuts ;)

The manual states to jack it up using the exhaust pipe but,I wouldn't do it that way. I have a stem stand that I had used on a GSXR1100 but,it was way to unstable with the Busa. The stand designs that utilize the holes in the bottom of the fork legs work but,you still must first take off the fender due to the large overhang. You could also make brackets that would temporaryly attach to the fork tube bottoms using the existing axle pinch threads (back side) and use a second swing arm stand.

Is it possible to safely lift the front wheel off the ground for removal (or fork removal) by using a swingarm stand only, and jacking under the engine? Taking a peak under the bike (with stock pipes), there is only a very small flat engine case area by the drain plug -- looks scary to me. Anyone have a good trick for doing this? If not, I'll have to get a front stand to be safe.

On the same topic, whats the best way to support the bike to remove the swingarm?

EYE wouldn't put a jack under MY oil pan...seen several oil plug leaking complaints out here...

Speaking of oil leaks from the drain plugs, my buddy went to the Suzuki dealer the other day to get oil/filer, and the parts guy wips out a bulletin from Suzuki that recommends replacing the crush washer on the drain plug every time it removed. This is probably why alot of them are leaking.

Back to the orginal subject. Yes, I would be hesitant to support wieght on the oil pan area near the drain plug too (that why I'm asking). But is there another method that is acceptable?

If you want your bike to fall over, do it exactly as you describe! Your best bet is to get a front fork stand. The other option is to run some bolts into the ceiling (assuming you're working in your garage) and support the front of the bike with straps.

I recently used two car jacks (indentical jacks from our two Hondas)to raise and support my front forks--had a swingarm stand on the back. It worked well enough for me to get the wheel off but you can't work on the forks that way.

I did it this afternoon. I used the winch on the back of my Suburban and a snatch block I hung from the front porch to lift it by the upper triple clamp. I hung the bike by 2 tie down straps while I drove to the bike shop to have them mount my new 207ZR. When I got back, I mounted the wheel and released the tie down straps.

I don't really have anything to hang by bike from, so I need another alternative.

Does anyone have the Pitbull front fork stand with the adaptor that will raise the bike from the bottom triple clamp? Pitbull also makes a "full-blown" front stand that will lift the bike from the lower TC, but its a big piece of hardware. The fork lift with the adaptor looks slick if it works well.
