fuel  pump

Guys, a guy at the bike shop, told me that i could replace the fuel filter in the fuel pump with an inline filter. do i need to place filters on the tank side, or just where it comes out of the pump to the fuel rail? also, if i need to replace this pump, what do i replace it with? ive been told 2001 will work. whats best? and price please help me, thankyou, mike
