Fuel pump issues??

Got the bike running, but it seems like it will idle for a few minutes and when I give it gas, it will sputter slightly and sometimnes bog off. I turn the key back on (hear the pump prime) and she starts up again. This time she idles fine. i go to take her around the block and after a minute its like its out of fuel. I twist the throttle and she wants to go but cuts out.
Everytime this happens , I shut off the key, turn it back on and it starts up and the problem starts all over again. Any Ideas??

Turn the key on and let the rail pressurize, then turn the key off. Do it again, maybe even a 3rd time. Then give it a shot. Dont worry if you have to remove the pump its quite possible the easiest thing ever. Check for pinched lines. Are you sure theres fuel in the bike? Has it been sitting for a while or no?

Bike is a 2000 with external pump. Yes bike was sitting a while, but I took apart the pump. cleaned it (wasn't really that bad. Cleaned out tank with evapo-rust (slight rust from sitting ). Tank is immaculate now. Pump definately goes on with key. rails fill and pump stops as it should. Bike runs for a minute or so then cuts off. I turn key off and back on and pump primes again and we start the whole business all over.
