Fuel pump question

I'm trying to remove my fuel pump to check out the filters, etc. The service manual says to remove the insulating foam that surrounds it. HOW?? It looks to me like the only way to take that foam off is to remove the entire bracket that holds the fuel pump, regulator, etc. Is this what I have to do? Or do they want you to just cut the foam with a knife and replace it with a new one? Any help from someone who has done theirs is greatly appreciated! :)

Looking down on the pump, on the left side, there are two holes in the foam, cut it down and slide it off the fuel pump. When you are finished, slide it back over the pump to keep it cool from the motor, and use 1 or 2 big tiewraps two hold it together, mine works just finne, and next year when you check it again, you can get to it right away, and replace it again.
