Anyone tried an aftermarket pump and regulator?

Thanks to Nick for posting the photos. Here is the full story of what I did on the fuel pump.

As some of you know I had a new fuel pump and regulator installed (thanks to the help and advice of Turbo Rick and the mechanic that did the install). I have attached a photo and I will not be posting this to the org or labusa site so please feel free to if anyone wants it there. I usually do not send photos out so on the list and I am sorry for those of you that dont wish to see this.

I yanked the entire fuel pump and regulator and now where the fuel pump was is the new NOS regulator (part # 15851) that is fully adjustable. And in the photo you can see that under the rear tail section is the new pump and fuel filter. Both parts are automotive and I bought them at Advanced Auto parts. The filter is a large capacity and I doubt I will ever have to worry about trash blocking those tiny screens again. The pump will supply a big block chevy with up to 125 psi so I am sure it will never starve a 45 psi busa. We used high pressure fuel lines and clamps and so far no leaks at all. I feel much better knowing this is solved even if it never gives me another HP. Though I bet it will due to the instability of the stock fuel pressure at high rpms of the stock unit. I think the pump and regulator was about $220 retail plus a few feet of hose, filter, fittings, and some clamps. Call it an even $250 and well worth it in my book.

The fuel pump is Airtex # E8248 Just remember when you go to order the pump at Advance or Auto Zone it is sold under the brand name of MASTER.

If anyone has questions email me at Rotts4u@aol.com

hhmmm

Looks like the fuel injection pump and filter I took off a Ford 2.8 injected car.......got that kicking around in the garage somewhere........stainless braided lines.......few clips.......just got to get the NOS regulator.....yikes!! sounds like I'm hooked on this conversion

Perhaps I need more advice about its suitability for stock machine...anyone, JC, Mr Motorhead??

Nuts ;)

rotts4u i would consider if problem ever happened to my bike.I like your set up very clean looking.
wondering if you will have a problem
if you get low on fuel where your low
fuel light comes on how is that last gallon of fuel going to work its way
up hill to your fuel pump, since the pump is gravity feed. the fuel
pump & lines should be lower than bottom
of tank, just in case you need that last gallon of gas. have you had that problem or you dont let fuel get that low.

I had not actually thought about the feed issue but wouldnt the pump actually suck the fuel up the small rise? If not I could just wheelie then the pump would be below the tank. If I could wheelie like Nick that is.

mine wich is not on a bike sits above the fuel cell and works fine,Its the same part # wich was pretty easy to find

I installed the same pump and regulator, took the stumble out of it,raising the fuel pressure to 45 psi seems to have helped a little also. Thanks for the info.

I have a couple questions on this mod:

1) I'll assume since this is a 4 port regulator one is plugged and one is a return line? (Looks that way in the pic)

2) Where does the vacuum line go from the stock setup? Does it plug into the regulator or is it capped off?

3) Where is your fuel pressure gauge at? Did it come with the regulator or did you get it separate?

4) Anything else special I should know before I try this little project?

Thanks in advance,
Ken

Just a little fyi on the fuel pump, Murrays Auto has the Airtex # E8248 for $95.00 when I called Autozone they wanted $129.00

If you care about gas mileage yes you need it.What it does is when the engine is pulling a vacum it lowers the fuel pressure.
It also makes it easyer to map out.

the regulator has 4 ports and a return out the back.any of the four can be inlet or outlet, plug the ones you dont use.I capped the vacum line at the tb because my regulator isnt near the motor.

thats what i was thinking if you pulled a vacum on that side of the diaphram it would lower the pressure on the seat.My motor is not in a bike.I race dwarf cars so milage isnt of concern.I have an a/f meter that i can see when i am racing so i kinda adjust the map according to what the a/f says.
any one messed with the timing yet and had good results?

i will run one to it but from what the instuctions said was if you had large sudden changes in manifold pressure ie; turbo or supercharger it was needed.did i read it wrong?
