Fuel tank question - nned help

I damaged the tank on my friend's Hayabyusa.  In addition to feeling like a total dork, I need to get him another tank.  I bought one off eBay, but found out that it might not fit a California bike.  Does anyone know the difference between a tank for a 49-state bike and a California bike?  Can they be interchanged?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Dave

What year bike and is he repainting it as i have a few but, think emissions is only difference not the tank, pull them both out and compare.

The bike is a 2002. I will compare the tanks as soon as the one I bought arrives. It was a Suzuki dealer that told us that the tank would not work.

Reading Suzuki's web site it looks like the Cal bike has a smaller gas tank (capacity wise at least)

I looked in my maintance manual and I can't find any reference of any difference or any acknowledgement  of a difference for any tank. So, I can't explain where the 1/2 gal difference is because the pumps are the same and the interiors are shown in ONLY one configuration

The .5 gal difference is because of the hardware in the tank to support the emissions canister. The two vent lines on the back of the CA tank are at different angles from the 49 state tank. I changed from a CA tank to 49 state tank when I changed colors on mine. I removed all the charcoal canister stuff and routed the two vent lines as a 49 state bike. Works like a charm and now 5.5 gal instead of 5 gal.

Thanks for the great information. That is great news! I thought that I was going to have to buy a new tanak at $670.00.

Hello,
I was wondering if you solved the problem with the tank. I also purchased a 49 state tank and I am from California. Do you have any photos of the instalation? I am confused of what the canister hoses should look like (both appearance and routing) and the gas tank hoses (appearance and routing)
