Full exhaust...no PCIII

Somebody asked me what could negatively happen if they installed a new full system but no PC III and using a stock air filter.

The only response I gave was that they wouldn't get the full benefit of the system they paid for w/ restricted air flow, improper back pressure and a poor a/f ratio. Not sure of any damaging side-effects...anybody know?

Won't damage anything, but will not get Max performance w/o the PC III. Might need to do Marble mod if backfiring. but like i said won't hurt anything from what i understand

Be smart and get the Power Comander and a dyno tune.

(Revvv @ Jul. 24 2007,02:10) The bike will run lean and shorten the life of the engine.
Not necessarily. For instance if you look at a map for a yosh, the PC is taking more fuel out almost everywhere with the exception of the 2500-3000 range. Even there it is not lean enough to hurt anything without the correction.

Putting a full system on without tuning has the potential of not running as good as the stock pipe.

In short, I just told him it's not a good idea...he just didn't like the idea of paying $900 for a full exhaust, then another $300 on top of that then another $300 for a custom dyno tune - a map from DynoJet or a custom made map from somebody else should save him the $300 from the dyno tune.

He may just opt for bolt-ons and save about $1000. I told him he could go w/ a 16/42 sprocket set-up if he wanted more getty-up w/ just bolt-ons.

If U don't go PCIII, at least do the... uuummm... TRE. Man, that hurt. IMO it will richen up the fuel in the lower RPM's to accomodate the new exhaust. Don't need both. Definitely will need the marble mod or something along that line.

tell him to call me I'll make it light on his pockets and put the heavy in his motor.

There are other options besides a PCIII but the PCIII will get you an absolute tune........if your tuner has a clue.

if he is patient, he can find used full systems for less (for example, I got a full Yosh RS-3 for $450 on ebay). I was also all set to "skimp" and settle for s/o...but might as well spend a bit more to get bike done right (also got BMC Race, PCIII on the way and dyno/tune shortly thereafter)

Man, if anyone knows how to save a buck it's this one...

JK. Good advice I should have taken several bounced checks ago.

Tried it with a full muzzy.Mid and high range was good. But while cruising through town with 30-35mph limits, bike would surge between 2500-2900rpm's.3rd gear was the worst.A pc fixed the problem and gave bike a harder pull on top.Power is much smoother at the same time.
My plan was to get a pc at a later time.I figured I would try it since it was summer.Exhaust was installed on a friday.200 mile on saturday.Pc was ordered the nexted monday morning with map.3 days later problem gone. What a differance.
All bikes are not the same.I've seen alot of bikes with full systems and have no problems without a pc.
