duuuuudes....like bruce banner say's...you would'nt want to see me when i'm angry...

so i'm finally ready to go for a ride on the new bike tomorrow. i go down to the dealer to get a new battery cause the one that came with the battery was being drained...

they tell me to check with a voltage light to see if something is staying on...that the light on the voltage meter will stay on when making a bridge from the negative cable to the battery...well it's staying on!

so tomorrow morning i'm getting dressed and waiting 'til they open at 10:am and calling to let THEM know they can either fix it today with me riding down there...or... they can come 70 miles during the week and trailer it, fix it, and trailer it back BEFORE next saturday AND it better not be towed in the rain.

this is the same dealership that had me go down there to pick it up and then tell me it was'nt ready cause the mechanic was out. so i had to wait a week.

if they dont do right...i'm SURE they will...BUT..if they dont...i WILL be posting the name of the dealership.

hey gunz....does you got an alarm system on that bike brother?...just a thought.

something doesnt sound right... your "making a bridge between the negitive cable and the battery" and the light stays on... thats not making any sense... voltage light... voltage meter... what are you using? a meter or a light?

LOL! Nice catch Top! LOL! You're right...if he makes a bridge between the neg. cable and pos. battery it's like...duh!!!...no shid! LOL!...if the battery has any juice whatsoever it's gonna...uhem...light up! LOL!!!

gunz...stay far far away from any stealership whose service rep who would advise you as such...what's the problem...be specific....and agin...do you have an alarm system on this bike?

+1 on this.. If the light goes on you have juice in the battery...

Did you lock the Bike, meaning did you lock the stearing and if you did, did you put the key in "P"? If so this will leave the rear light on and within a couple of hours your battery will be dead. If you did this, just hook up a battery tender and let i charge for and hour or so.. You should be good to go.

My battery drained just from sitting for maybe a month. I suspect it was just a bad battery. Anyway, dealer said because of things like the clock, you want to disconnect the negative terminal (or connect a battery tender) if it sits for any extended period. So now I'm fixated on disconnecting the negative terminal every time I park it. Hope you get it figured out.

Battery tenders are $25. Round trips to an incompetent dealership ... 140 miles round trip @ 14 miles to the gallon = 10 gallons. Gallon of gas in $2.89 here. $28.90 in just fuel. Not counting three hours of travel time and 6 hours of waiting and however much you'll spend on nicknacks while waiting...
Finding the problem yourself ... Priceless

i have a scorpio alarm, and lo-jack.

i have a battery tender. but just from sitting overnight without the tender on it the battery drains below 80%. that does'nt sound right.

the dealer told me to disconnect the negative cable, and use a voltage light [looks like a pen with a clip, pointer, and light in it] to connect/bridge the negative cable to the negative terminal. that the voltage light should go on for a second and then go off. if it stays on somethings draining the battery.

probably your alarm then... somethings not hooked up right and its draining away or you have a short in the alarm system but most likely if there is a short you will have either a blown fuse or your alarm would be doing funny things like not working right...

No offence here, but this is why having too many things done at once makes finding the problem harder.
Also, the fact that you never had the bike before you had the dealer put on your 'add ons' makes it hard to know if it was a problem outta the factory.
I wish I had an answer, but this is one of those pain in the neck things to find.
Good luck gunz.

BTW,these type of things usually happen to me with my bad luck......

The test light "trick" works ok. A bright light indicates a big draw. If you were to do this with a dvom and the draw is over 10a you can damage your expensive meter. The first thing to check is that the key is not being left in the park light position. (hard to see well in daylight -- but the park lights stay on and it will draw the battery down ). Other than that you can track it down with a magnetic ammeter or remove fuses till the light goes out to isolate.

also I am not familiar with the LoJack rigs-- but would think they require power all the time to transmit position. I would have to see the specs and set-up parameters on them.
The bike either needs to be ridden to keep the battery up or kept on a trickle charger when not in use
It could be a bunk battery also
My alarm will draw the battery down in about a week (if it goes off a lot)
