Hi I've been browsing these forums for a while now but finally decided to register and hopefully become part of this online community. I guess this would be the introduction section? Unless I missed it.

Welp, I live down here in the

state of Florida. I'm soon to be 23 and I finally decided that I would like to get an 08 Busa IF I find that I'm not qualified for financial aid at the school I go to just because its crazy expensive... ONE class cost me almost $3k so yea...

More about my experiences with bikes. Well, I have NONE. This would be my first bike ever and no this isn't one of those 'should I buy this as a first bike' type of threads because I already know I am. I might be stupid to some but w/e. Hell, my neighbor got a busa as a first bike and just practiced down the street for a few weeks and now almost a year later still no accidents or drops. I do plan on doing the safety courses and all but its real hard finding time to do it.

I should find out about the whole financial aid thing this upcoming week so we will see what happens. I was really hoping to find a really cheap bike around the area to practice on during my free time but I failed horribly. I was hoping to find a good working bike in the hundreds but I guess it doesn't work out like that with bikes. As far as the busa goes though, if anyone around the central Florida area knows of some good dealers to go to I would appreciate the info. I plan on paying cash so I'm hoping / sure I can work something out with one of the dealers. My friend bought his used with the body all scratched / dented up and pretty much ended up paying what would of been retail for a brand new bike so I figure I might as well buy one from a dealer instead of going through the headache. And besides, any used 08 busa being soled probably won't be too far off from retail I would think..

Anyways, this is getting pretty long so anyone who wants to bash me feel free to and same goes to anyone who wants to say whats up

BE cautious with the new Busa, remember there's no shame in taking it easy, start in C or B mode till you get used to handling the bike, and although time may be a constraint there is NO substitute for the MSF class, they will teach you MANY good things. You really should take the class, and welcome, keep us posted.

SO what about that LoJack tracking system for the bikes? I did a search and most of the posts are from 05-06 and most people didn't recommend it. Just wondering if anything has changed over the passed couple years. It will be garage kept but in the public, I guess anything can happen at any time. I was thinking for the cost it would take to just get a good alarm system.

*oh yea and thanks for the welcomes

Welcome to the board.

Down to brass tacks, though, I should point out that, "almost a year later still no accidents or drops," shouldn't be any assurance to you. Some people are lucky.

Think this over a little more carefully.

Well I wouldn't exactly say that luck is on your side if you don't drop your bike while learning on it. I think it has to due with the person riding it just taking it easy and being cautious. My point by saying what you quoted was simply, yes, its possible to ride this as a first bike without damaging anything as long as you, like everyone says, respect it and know your limits. I guess I should have worded it differently but I do understand what you mean.

And to answer the school question, I just started an air traffic management program but from the looks of it, I won't be continuing through the current school that I'm at due to financial reasons. I just don't see the point in paying $80k+ when there are other schools I can just transfer to for way cheaper or possibly due it through the FAA themselves (if I'm lucky enough). I just thought financial aid was going to be a lot more helpful.

Welcome. Consider using the power mode selector on the 2008. There is no shame in riding in C mode for the first 500 miles and B mode for the next 500 miles till 1000. The first 500 miles of break in the max rpm is 5500 and after that till 1000 miles is 8000 rpm. If you use the mode selector as I stated above for the break in period and stay at the recommended rpm your skill level will improve at the same pace as the bike. I did it this way and it also gave me something to look forward to at 500 mile intervals. Don't be a hero and if you do nothing else take this one piece of advise and you should be fine. This was far from my first bike but it has power like NOTHING I have ever owned. This one little thing will give you the time you need on the bike to learn it and start to feel comfortable but the biggest challenge will be second guessing all the crazy drivers and knowing what they are going to do before they do it. There is no substitution for experience and defensive driving is a must have skill that you need with out having to think about twice. So.....go slow, take the course, and be safe! Remember....1st C then B !!!!!!!!

Welcome to the board. You're going to love the Busa once you get one.
