Game system recommendations

I have to put in a couple gaming systems in some new patient rooms we are adding.. We do IVIG and some patients spend 4 to 8 hours with us a day and the kids need something to play.. I am not sure Wii is a good idea as the patients have IV's and do not need them torn loose..

So what do I put in or should I get a couple different systems?

Never played with any game consoles and am completely lost here...

are you thinking GAMEBOY portable type stuff or just consoles and screens? the PS2 [Playstation 2] is kinda cheap and has TONS of decent games available for it. if you go to a local USED GAMING store in your hood, you will find working units and great prices - especially on used games.

we could recommend PS3, XBOX360, and XBOX, but you will pay a bunch for those AND for each game on those systems and unless you are using HDTVs, the quality won't be amazing looking or anything. that's why I recommend the PS2 - even though I'm a Nintendo fan :)

32" HD flat panels and cost really is not an issue.. patient smiles are.. I have carte blanc on this stuff but I do not want to get stuff I do not need is all

PS2, PS3, I would probably go for that.

Like you said, the Wii could cause problems...and I've got an XBox 360, (I love it however), but the life expectancy is around 14-16months. They put cheap shid chips in them and they do the "red ring of death" now, that makes them irreparable.

I would go with PS3 probably. Lots of GREAT games, GREAT graphics...(they're not TOO much participation, etc.)...good luck with your decision.

If cost is not an issue I would go with a PS3. You get an HDD, Blu Ray disc, and large variety of games. Free access to Playstation Network is pretty nice also, you can download or rent a host of new release and classic movies as well as games.

I play my xbox 360 everyday and love it! They have gone down in price also. The controllers are wireless so nobody can trip over them also!

I have a Gen 1 xbox, PS2 and a Game Cube that are yours if you would like them. They aren't the latest and greatest but they are free for the taking.

I posted this in response to your note in the Ebay thread before I noticed this one.

360 Randy, wireless remotes are good to have in that situation, games backwards compatible for older ones and they look great on that size tv, I have always had XBOX nver been disappointed...but WHO CARES.....really the issue is what you're doing for these kids, just goes to prove you are as awesome as I knew you were....

I have all three next gen system and from what I can tell kids love the wii(not for me) but like you said with IV's in it is a very bad idea you are all over the place with a wii. As far as what I consider the power house next gen(even though sells don't reflect) you have the ps3 and xbox360. The ps3 is a gaming computer you can do so so much with and it come with all the goodies that the xbox 360 does not like the for example comes w/ wifi, memory, HDMI port(mine came with but I think now you have to buy the cable), SD card reader, Blu-ray (which is amazing) bluetooth and rechargable wireless controllers. All these things do not come with the 360 everything for a 360 you have to buy seperate or get the upgraded version $$. You probably wont need all those things for the kids they are always happy with what that get when they are playing it. I perfer the 360 but I had to buy everything for it wireless controllers, rechargable battery pack(a must) HD-DVD player wifi adapter and so forth. As for wii has the best kids games but again probably not a good choice for situation so I would say that the 360 has that part hands down. As for the red ring of death I think thats a bunch of crap I have had my 360 for three years now no problems yes I have heard of them breaking but you send it back and they send you a new one if it is not covered then I think it cost like a hundred bucks. I have done the math and if you are going to buy one they both run about the same price after you add the same options that the ps3 has but like I said before I perfer the 360. HD gaming is where it is at it so clear and crisp. I don't think it will metter for a 32inch tv but the xbox puts 1080i and the ps3 put a true 1080p and the ps3 moves at 60 frames per second for very smooth gaming again I don't think you will need all of this so I would go with the 360. I hope this has helped you a little I can answer any questions you might have if needed good luck:beerchug:

I agree w/ lycan .........but(of course theres a but) not all games are backwards compatable only platium games(top sellers) same goes for the ps3

Very gracious Dan :) dang you never cease to amaze but find a deserving kid..

The office can afford to buy and so they should, and then I would take the thing home and spend even less time doing what 'needs' done

(Did take some convincing the Dr that this is a worthwhile investment.. had to threaten to lock him in treatment room for 4 hours.. so I got my LARGER rooms and entertainment for the Pt's) :woot:

I honestly think the Xbox 360 is probly your most cost-effective choice...but I also think??

for kids-if you're dealing mostly with teens n younger, esp. in-patients who might be wearing alost of med. 'gear' you dont want torn off the PS3 might be best bet becuz of the controller design/ergonomics....from what feedback I've gotten from buds who ran some Gamestops kids have fewer wrist/finger/thumb issues with the PS3 controllers over the Xbox-obviously the Wii's go flying all over so not a good choice to keep kids stationary...the PS3 does have some games that utilize the 6-axis capabilities of the controller (it can basically tell any which direction you move it-think accelerometer) but only gets full use in certain games.
I also think PS3 has a bigger library of kids' games (thru access to all the PS2 titles which will also play on the PS3, and look slighty better too) and since you said you have HD flat-screens, Im sure the kids' would all be really stoked to just a watch a blu-ray movie (n you can use the PS3 controller wirelessly to controll the flick too) on those things:cheerleader:

I currently have a Xbox360 sitn in a box in my closet and a PS3 so take my .02c for whatever its' worth in today's economy...like .000013usd i think:moon:

on a side note-I totally forgot *since I dont use the features*
the internet-capabilities of the PS3 would make it a better candidate for your kids because the service is FREE on PS3-so they can game online with other kids in other COUNTRIES if you guys can hookup a modem or run a wireless link to the network...
Xbox 360 however requires a membership which runs over $100 a year n sometimes games need 'updates' purchased to play online too *i ran into this with Gears Of War-new levels cost $10+ n if you dint have'em and eveyone went into to room to play-you got the boot*

so-another nudge towards PS3 i guess...

I think my brain is melting... maybe a PS3 in one room and the xbox in the other?

Every kid and most adults I know love the Mario Cart games for the Game Cube :)
Ok Don, why did I know you were going to throw a wrench in my day... (happens to be about the only game I have played on one of the machines.. my other time was on a Wii game system of our boys and the one at Steves)
