Gas cap rubber.

Hi All,

Asking on behalf of a friend. He can smell some petrol whenever he is riding his busa.

Base on my observation, I realise there is no compression when closing the tank cap. I am suspecting the rubber might be harden or shrink?

I check online and realise that Suzuki don't sell the rubber. And on the other hand, there is a universal tank cap rubber. Does anyone know if this rubber is universal?

There is also a vent in the gas cap to allow vapor pressure to escape....

I smell fumes if it is a hot day and I've ridden hard which sloshes the fuel around creating more vapors....I suspect this may be the smell you are getting.....

However,

Have you gone to a Suzuki dealership to check if they have it in their system?

The vent went down all the way to rectifier below the bike. With the bike moving, I think abit difficult for fuel to be detected at the rider height.

Checked the parts list, but no rubber to be found.

However many "universal" in gas cap rubber turns out. Think I will buy 1 and try.

There's a vent in the actual gas cap......

What you are referring to is an overfill tube....

There are 2 tube side by side at the bottom of your fuel tank near to the battery side and both routed to the rectifier...

1 is for the overflow like you mention, the other is for the vent. It's part number 27 for the vent and part 25 for the drain.

I think only the California model has the evap system which recycle the tank venting.

Are you suggesting the small red rubber between the cap and tank that suppose to channel the vapour to the rectifier got issue?

Hmmm. I never think about that. Let me check. Maybe this guy was missing. I did not notice previously.

That most likely where the vapors are coming from....

Is the gas cap seal visibly worn, cracked or deformed?

I've never heard of having to change out a gas cap seal......this could be the first for me....

Ah I didn't check that.

I will ask him to check it out. Thanks for reminder.
I don't have a factory gas cap on mine anymore but if I recall correctly, there is a tiny hole in the actual gas cap that acts as a vent.......I know there is on all my other bikes I've owned but I can't recall if there is on the Hayabusa....

There is.
Same cap as most Suzuki streetbikes for a couple decades.
This is my Gsxr gas cap, same thing.
The vent can clog from dirt or moisture, as it's just a check valve ball.
