Gas gage doesn't work

I bought a 2005 busa used (only 30 miles on it baby!), at any rate, the only problem with the bike is that the gas gage doesn't register any gas ever being used. It always stays on "Full". I'd love it if it were true, but I've almost run out of gas a couple of times just because I had no idea how much fuel I had left. Are we talking a fuse or a module that I have to replace? Any ideas on how to test it to see what the problem is?

Used... was it wrecked? I'd check the connections under the tank and the one to the back of the dash itself. Someone else with more knowledge should have some more specific areas to look at. This is the first i've heard of such a problem...

You can also sit on the bike and rock it side to side and listen for the sound of "SHWOOSH SHWOOSH SHWOOSH"... if you hear that, you've still got gas in the tank!

But... only 30 miles? From a dealer or private owner? 30 miles is like calling it brand spanking new (if garaged and free of bird crap and scratches from being in the elements)!

Sounds like a ground problem on the sending unit,or maybe its bad (sending unit),I would try a new fuel pump/sending unit.If the problem persist, check the wiring to the pump.

Does it always stay on full or does it get down to almost empty and suddenly drop?
Also, when you turn the key, does it cycle with all the other gauges, or is it just stuck up there all the time?

Hi Guys,
The gas gage goes through the normal start up sequence with all the other gages on the dash. Engine off- it reads Empty, Engine running- it reads Full and stays there no matter how much gas is in it.

I bought the bike on Ebay a couple of months ago from a car and boat dealership in KY. I got it for $8300- not a bad price for a bike so mint. The only problem was that the former owner was a kid that had never ridden a bike in his life, and got a wild hair one day about having a busa. Be bought it, rode it one time and dropped it on his leg (there are some minor scrapes on the right fairing). The bike scared the crap out of him, so he sold it to the car and boat dealership to try and get some of his money back. Other than the scapes on the side and the gas gage, there are NO ISSUES with the bike.

I've been riding for about 12 years, and my first time out on this bike was like popping my motorcycle-cherry all over again. I'm completely sold on it, and now I'm busy keeping myself from buying all the engine mods I can find...

Any help with the gas gage would be appreciated!
